Mao Katahira

Mao is a peculiar-looking little girl who wears a small white dress and roses in her hair. Her face lacks eyebrows and upper lashes but has thick lower ones, along with sideburns reaching down to her jaw. A short tail, roughly five centimeters long, sits at her rear.

Easygoing and fond of play, Mao spends her time with other children at the park, wholly untroubled by her odd looks. She says little but greets everyone she meets, and for all her youth she quietly maneuvers events so that her mother might meet her biological father.

Mao speaks only in reverse and, by her mother's account, has never used Japanese normally, though she talks plainly the moment she meets her biological father. Her footsteps make no sound, and whatever she treads on turns soaking wet. Stranger still, her Heart has taken the shape of the tail on her back: touch it and her body instinctively camouflages itself against its surroundings, an effect Heaven's Door judges to be a visible Stand ability rather than a mere genetic quirk.

She was conceived through an anonymous sperm donation from Obanazawa, and despite her deformities she lives a calm childhood free of bullying, befriending Obanazawa's son Tomoya. When she is shown to Rohan Kishibe, he finds nothing to fix, declaring her born exactly as she was meant to be, and departs. Later she pulls a prank on her mother, shedding her skin and disguising another child as herself to stage a fake kidnapping, seemingly to push Mai and Obanazawa together.
