Reimi Sugimoto

Reimi is a petite sixteen-year-old of ordinary height with soft, girlish features and wide, striking eyes rendered as violet-pink in some versions and blue in the manga. Her light hair falls to her chin and is held back by an Alice band, its shade drifting between brown in the colored pages and pink in the anime.

She wears a choker above a short sleeveless dress trimmed with bows, with bands on her upper arms that cross over into a lattice down the forearms. Platform sandals and pale polish complete the look. In her ghostly form, enormous knife wounds sit across her back, forever fresh from the killing that ended her life.

Warm, playful, and deeply empathetic, Reimi has bound herself by choice to Morioh until the day her killer answers for his crime. For most of her years as a ghost she is alone but for her dog Arnold, unseen by anyone without a Stand, and the loneliness weighs on a girl who was likely quite sociable in life. She teases Rohan with a lighthearted fortune told through Pocky, and despite his prickliness she frets over him constantly, a protectiveness rooted in having once been his babysitter.

Her compassion reaches far beyond herself. She weeps as she pleads with Rohan and Koichi for help, grieves for every soul Kira claims, and is visibly shaken when Shigekiyo's spirit passes on. Having watched countless victims fall over the years, she never grows numb to any of them. Yet she also carries a fierce longing for justice against her murderer, having carefully positioned Arnold in ambush to help drag him toward his fate.

Reimi lived next door to Rohan Kishibe when he was four, and one evening she watched over him while his parents were out. That night Yoshikage Kira slipped into the house; roused by a dripping sound, she discovered Arnold dead and realized her parents had been murdered. She saved the small boy by sending him out a window while she took a savage wound to the back and died. Ever after she lingered as a ghost tied to a concealed alley that serves as a gateway to the afterlife, waiting alongside Arnold for anyone able to hear her account and report the killer before more girls fell.

Her wait ends when Koichi and Rohan, both able to perceive her, finally arrive. Rohan has no memory of her, but she recounts what happened and begs them to alert the police. He balks at first, then agrees once he learns the murderer still walks free, warning Morioh's Stand users about him. From the alley she later glimpses Shigekiyo's soul rising to heaven.

When Kira at last dies, his spirit is delivered to the same alley, and Reimi tries to bait him into glancing backward so the waiting hands can claim him. He sees through the ruse because he knows the place, but Arnold forces the fatal look, and countless arms drag him away. Her long vigil over, Reimi bids a tearful farewell to the town's Stand users and ascends to heaven with Arnold at her side.
