Rohan Kishibe

Rohan is a lean young man of ordinary height with green hair swept into a slicked, sideways undercut. His face is finely modeled, marked by sharp cheekbones and thin, delicate brows. Eye color shifts by medium, appearing green in the animated works but split between a blue right eye and a gold left one in the colorized manga OVAs, where he also sports lipstick.

Though his outfits change constantly, a handful of signatures never leave him: a headband jagged along both edges resting atop his head, and dangling earrings tipped with manga pen nibs. Pen motifs recur across nearly everything he wears, whether as jewelry or printed patterns. His overall look leans flamboyant and somewhat revealing, pairing form-fitting, unusually designed pieces with a looser garment layered over them, as with the baggy suit and half-open vest of his debut.

Everything about Rohan bends toward his craft. An immensely talented draftsman, he pours himself into making the finest manga he can for one overriding reason: he wants to be read. That drive eclipses any hunger for money, fame, or companionship, and while drawing he falls into a near-trance that is difficult to break. Because the technical side comes so easily to him, the thing he prizes most is fresh inspiration.

Chasing that inspiration, he pries relentlessly into the world around him, brushing aside manners, common sense, and the law alike. He once bought an entire mountain to preserve a rumored yokai's habitat and thinks nothing of turning strangers into books to mine their lives. His curiosity can curdle into the morbid, as when he tasted a spider's insides out of sheer interest, yet he insists that genuine reality, never fakery, is the richest source of material.

Arrogant and abrasive, Rohan generally looks down on others and can be openly rude, needling those he dislikes and refusing requests just to put them in their place. Underneath the prickliness, though, he is fundamentally decent. He respects courage and kindness, holding Koichi in real esteem, and he consistently defends lives even at cost to himself, pleading for an editor's safety and saving a suicidal boy. His stubborn honor gives him an unbending moral line, and he always grants fans their autographs. The events of Part 4 leave him noticeably humbler than the boastful figure of his earliest interviews.

Rohan wields Heaven's Door, a Stand that transforms people into living books whose pages unfurl to reveal their memories, biology, secrets, and even Stand details for him to read. He gained it after being struck by the Arrow, and his mastery has sharpened over time, progressing from needing a target to view his drawing, to sketching in the air, to merely a touch. He inscribes commands into people with careful restraint and can exploit their paper state in inventive ways, immobilizing a foe by turning a joint to paper or flattening a heavy man thin enough to slip between speeding trains.

His mundane skill matches his Stand. Rohan draws at superhuman speed and precision, able to keep a deadline even inside the accelerated time of Made in Heaven, and quick enough to hurl pen nibs hard enough to pierce skin. First appearing as an obstacle to Koichi and Toshikazu Hazamada, he clashes bitterly with Josuke, then joins the effort to expose Kira, ultimately helping corner the killer after narrowly surviving Bites the Dust. Beyond the main story, he headlines spin-offs including Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan, Rohan at the Louvre, and Rohan Kishibe Goes to Gucci, in which he inherits a Stand-bearing Gucci bag from his late grandmother.
