Satoru Akefu

Akefu presents as an aged man of somewhat stocky build, though his limbs look noticeably thinner than his torso. He dresses formally in a dark bowler hat and suit, a pale scarf slit with an irregular dash-like pattern, and dress shoes, and he leans on a cane. Once he is shown clearly, his gaunt, deeply lined face stands out for its high cheekbones, hollow eyes, and prominent nose. A beard cut into several short points and a monocle over the right eye complete the look, while his surprisingly thick hair curls into rounded clusters at the sides above squared-off sideburns.

For someone holding so lofty a title, Akefu keeps an astonishingly low profile, a trait in keeping with the withdrawn, antisocial streak common to Rock Humans. He simply disregards Josuke, Yasuho, and Rai when they close in, never stooping to a direct confrontation. That distance is deceptive, however, since the automatic Stand he embodies punishes anyone who dares to follow him without mercy. The persona itself is a fabrication: the name belongs to a genuine retired doctor whom Toru is impersonating in order to run his research behind a human face. Before adopting this form, Toru had already used the same Stand to kill the father of Rai Mamezuku, and the real Akefu, living out his final years in an Ibaraki nursing home, was presumably murdered so the identity could be stolen for the next decade.

Though he walks with a cane, Akefu proves startlingly quick and agile, enough to make Rai doubt his claimed age. He is in fact Wonder of U itself, a mechanically styled Stand whose power operates automatically over an enormous range. According to Mitsuba, the effect switches on the moment a target sets eyes on his back, after which any collision the victim suffers is amplified into a grievous wound; a flicked cigarette can drive clean through a hand, and small impacts like raindrops land with the force of bullets, while larger ones such as a passing car take a beat to catch up. Once the opening assault fades, the ability lies dormant and flares again at the merest intent to chase him, no matter the distance involved. He is finally undone when Kaato Higashikata and Josuke's Soft & Wet Go Beyond expose and destroy him; the Stand reassembles for one last lunge at Norisuke IV before Go Beyond ends it for good.
