Takuma Hasumi

A horse-shaped birthmark sits on the neck of this lean, fair-haired teenager, the same mark that once earned him his name. Streaks of angry red run down both arms, left behind by years of compulsive scratching, and his narrow eyes stay dark and frozen no matter the moment. To keep the wounds on his skin out of sight, he sticks to a black school uniform at all times, wraps three belts around his throat, and wears earrings on one side. A fountain pen, handed to him long ago by the Crybaby Boy, rides permanently in his breast pocket.

Because his mind records every experience and refuses to release any of it, Takuma has grown into a solitary, emotionally shuttered young man. He was ordinary enough as a small child, but the relentless replay of every painful moment drove him to sever his ties with everyone around him. He treats even his one companion, his half-sister Chiho, with distance, and he admits plainly that love is beyond him, sparing genuine feeling only for the mother who gave everything to protect him.

To avoid piling still more memories onto himself and his Stand, he lives as a recluse, doing as little as he can while circling the same few haunts such as the Thorn Library and his late grandparents' home. What The Book has taught him about his own origins fuels a single obsession: making his father Teruhiko suffer. He has become an atheist along the way, reasoning that no god would let so vile a man prosper. In pursuit of that goal he turns ruthless, killing Hanae Orikasa, targeting Josuke Higashikata, and coldly steering Chiho into loving him, though the incest that follows leaves even him sickened and guilty.

Born to Akari Hirai and the man then called Teruhiko Okami, the infant was left at a temple and raised at an orphanage named Azalea's Hill, where staff coined his name from the birthmark on his neck. They first mistook his perfect recall for genius before realizing he could only hoard information, not use it. A car struck him during grade school while a half-remembered piece of music held his attention, and the crash left a lasting scar.

His inability to forget eventually turned unbearable. Buried under an ever-growing flood of unwanted memories, he shut himself away, harmed himself, and tried more than once to end his life. During a hospital stay his Stand, The Book, manifested and absorbed everything his head had been holding, finally granting him relief. Reading his own distant past within its pages, he pieced together Akari's suffering, located her body in the gap where she died, recovered her bones and her black amber necklace, and swore to avenge her.

He drilled himself in knife throwing from around sixth grade and, at thirteen, rescued a young Chiho from a harasser without revealing who he was. Years later, during the events of The Book: 4th Another Day, he opens his campaign by killing Hanae Orikasa with a memory of his old car accident, then rekindles his bond with Chiho. As Rohan Kishibe, Koichi, Josuke, and Okuyasu close in on the culprit, he muddies the trail by implanting his scratching memory into other students. He mails a page carrying his suicide memory to kill Josuke, only for Tomoko to open it instead. After confronting Teruhiko over dinner and handing Chiho the necklace that shatters his father's spirit, his revenge is complete. Cornered afterward by Okuyasu and then Josuke on a rooftop, he is beaten and falls to the death he had long wished for. Chiho is later revealed to be carrying his child.
