Tamami Kobayashi

The manga gives Tamami two looks that swap partway through his story. He starts out tall and menacing, with heavy epicanthic folds, a dark pompadour molded into a thick helmet of hair, and a small cross-shaped scar near the left corner of his mouth. Over the course of the arc his frame steadily shrinks until he stands about level with Koichi, a height he keeps thereafter. The anime skips the change and draws him short from the outset, dressing him in a purple shirt patterned with national flags, a yellow tie, a green belt, and brown trousers.

Tamami earns his living by lying, styling himself the well-known Boss Tamami and joking that not even his own parents would trust his word. Because he despises actual violence, his Stand becomes the perfect tool for parting people from their money without a fight. Once Koichi defeats him, he channels the same knack into legitimate work, squeezing repayment out of debtors for casinos and the mob by making them feel too guilty to refuse.

Tamami received The Lock from Keicho Nijimura roughly four months before the main story, planning to pair it with his con-artist instincts and never work honestly again. The Stand grows a crushingly heavy lock over the heart of anyone he can push into feeling guilt, weighing them down further the deeper that guilt runs. He debuts by convincing Koichi that his bicycle killed a cat stashed in a bag, then demanding payment while The Lock clamps onto the guilt-stricken boy. When Josuke and Okuyasu step in, Okuyasu's punch and the remorse that follows hook him with his own Stand, and Josuke exposes the cat as a doll and heals everyone free.

Vowing revenge, Tamami turns up at Koichi's house and frames the boy for stealing a wallet holding half a million yen, locking both Koichi's mother and sister in guilt severe enough to push them toward suicide. Koichi finally clears his name by amplifying his plea with his newborn Stand, Echoes, which shatters The Lock and ends the con. From then on Tamami fears and respects him, taking to calling him Boss Koichi. He resurfaces afterward to feed Josuke and Koichi a tip on Toshikazu Hazamada, gets knocked out by the Stand Surface, serves as a reluctant judge during a dice game against Rohan Kishibe, and appears once more to see Reimi Sugimoto off, with a later cameo asking Rohan for an autograph.
