Toru

Toru is a lean man on the short side, only just clearing Yasuho's height. His hair forms a curly afro marked by a white swirl on each side, and he tends to fling his thick eyebrows upward to signal cluelessness or delight. A dark vest sits over a cropped sweatshirt that bares his lower stomach, with an S framed by a sun stitched at the right breast and a smaller version near the crotch of his trousers. A teddy bear perches on each shoulder, and grapevines and leaves wind across his pant legs.

Careful, calculating, and quietly manipulative, Toru sets his ambitions above every person around him and treats allies as disposable tools. Years earlier he exploited the young Yasuho's Stand to give Wonder of U a face to wear, and though he professes to love her and long to reunite, he is really angling to use her again, showing almost no worry when she nearly dies at the estate. He is just as willing to gun down Poor Tom to keep his scheme intact.

His Stand also lets him stay unnervingly relaxed: he calmly plays music rather than panic while Wonder of U is under attack, and when Josuke reveals a power that might slip past his calamity, he opts to withdraw with the fruit and even politely requests the New Locacaca from Yasuho rather than seizing it by force.

Cast out at birth by his Rock Human mother and left in the wild, Toru matured over some seventeen years inside a wasps' nest, wiping out the colony once he reached his adult form, then blended anonymously into Morioh. In 1941 Lucy Steel glimpsed him burying a Locacaca in a pot, and he is thought to be behind the Guard Rail that struck at her and Joseph Joestar. By 1994 his Wonder of U had killed Rai Mamezuku's father for stumbling onto one of his hidden rock insects, and Toru quietly attended the funeral.

Roughly a decade before the main story, he approached Yasuho as a girl and coaxed her into locating an aging physician whose form Wonder of U could then take; with Paisley Park's help she picked out Satoru Akefu, never guessing the truth until far later. He resurfaced during her high school years to date her, breaking it off a year before JoJolion, and took a part-time post at TG University Hospital.

Across the final arcs his cover unravels. Wonder of U works automatically and from great range: the instant anyone looks at, dwells on, or chases the Stand or Toru himself, that person starts colliding with their surroundings, every impact amplified to lethal force, so that even a flicked cigarette can bore through a palm. The Stand kills Jobin Higashikata after being spotted in the estate, and Toru dances to music over the corpse before catching and eating a hornet with his rock powers. Watching Yasuho fight to claim the New Locacaca, he warns her not to chase him lest a calamity maim or kill her, then moves in to seize the fruit himself, severing Joshu's fingers when he intervenes. Josuke's invisible soap bubbles blast Toru twice, tearing open his abdomen even after he swallows a New Locacaca fruit to try to fuse with someone and heal. When he attempts to lure Kaato Higashikata close, she instead reveals the hidden Tsurugi and forces an equivalent exchange between the two, curing her grandson's Rock Disease and passing it to Toru. He crumbles to dust, glimpsing a wasp from his infancy at the very end, yet the calamity lingers, killing Kaato as Wonder of U reforms until Josuke destroys it with Go Beyond.
