Appearance

A teenage boy, Hazamada starts out tall but, much like Tamami Kobayashi, shrinks to roughly Koichi's height as the story goes on, though the anime simply draws him short from the start. He wears long, straight dark hair and a school uniform bearing the character for his surname at the collar, with several belts running down the chest in a straitjacket motif. His upper eyelids are darkly shaded, and he sports a bandage across his nose when he and Koichi call on Rohan.

Personality

Outwardly Hazamada seems meek and reserved, yet he seethes with resentment toward popular people, jealous enough to lash out at his own Stand once it takes on Josuke's face. He guards his passions ferociously, and the slightest slight to a favorite manga can send him into a violent rage, as when he drove a classmate to stab out his own eye over a disliked title. Heaven's Door lays bare a far uglier core of animal cruelty and predatory impulses, leading Rohan to dismiss him as too repugnant to base any story upon.

History

A third-year at Budogaoka high school, Hazamada gained his Stand from Keicho Nijimura's Bow and Arrow, and rumor tied him to a classmate who gouged out his own eye, an act Surface had secretly compelled. Acting on Tamami Kobayashi's tip, Koichi and Josuke investigate, and Josuke cracks open Hazamada's locker to find the doll-like Stand, which copies his image and seizes control of him. Hazamada wants Jotaro driven out of town and sends the disguised Surface to reach him, but Josuke breaks free, and the bikers Hazamada had earlier assaulted beat him into a hospital bed while Josuke smashes the puppet. He later reappears much shorter, seeking friendship with fellow Rohan Kishibe fan Koichi, and the two are caught snooping by Heaven's Door during a visit to the artist. He resurfaces among the townsfolk warned about Yoshikage Kira, privately hoping only to avoid the killer, and turns up once more to bid farewell to Reimi Sugimoto at the story's close.

Does Hazamada become a good guy?

Toshikazu Hazamada never fully reforms, since Heaven's Door reveals an ugly core of animal cruelty and predatory impulses beneath his meek exterior. Still, he softens over time, seeking friendship with fellow Rohan Kishibe fan Koichi Hirose and eventually turning up among the townsfolk warned about the killer Yoshikage Kira.

Why is Hazamada so short?

Why does Hazamada go after Jotaro Kujo?

Toshikazu Hazamada wants Jotaro Kujo driven out of town and sends his puppet Stand Surface, disguised in Josuke Higashikata's likeness, to confront him. Josuke breaks free of Surface's control before Hazamada's plan can succeed.

What is Toshikazu Hazamada's Stand?
