Appearance

In his ghostly state, Yoshihiro takes the form of a frail, balding elderly man, his face marked by a modest mustache and a dark goatee. During his living years he favored tidy, respectable clothing, pairing a green striped button-up with a purple tie, a yellow cardigan, and a loose lime suit. Death stripped that ensemble down, and the spirit now appears in only the striped green top with matching trousers.

Personality

Everything Yoshihiro does is bent toward his son. A gnawing guilt, born of standing aside while his wife tormented the boy in childhood, curdles his affection into blind enablement, and he props up Yoshikage's ambitions without limit, even helping to bury the evidence of his killings. He shows no concern for the women his son slaughters, and the fact that Enya and DIO trusted him with a Stand Arrow hints that Yoshikage's rotten nature was passed down from the father. For all that warped devotion, his love reads as genuine, however monstrously misplaced.

History

Yoshihiro married and, on the thirtieth of January 1966, fathered Yoshikage. He watched his wife smother the child with abuse and said nothing, a silence he came to regret. Once he realized his grown son had become a killer, following the murder of Reimi Sugimoto, he chose to shield him. Around 1986 he acquired a Stand Arrow from an old woman in Egypt and used it to draw out both his own Atom Heart Father and his son's Killer Queen. Cancer took him in 1987, his wife passing soon after, yet his Stand let him linger as a ghost sealed inside a photograph, watching over Yoshikage's quiet life.

When the Joestar Group searches Kira's home in 1999, Yoshihiro tries to trap and butcher them, though he only manages to pull Josuke and Jotaro into his photo. Jotaro turns the trick around by forcing the spirit to fill the entire frame, robbing him of room to act. Undeterred, Yoshihiro flees carrying the Arrow and creates fresh Stand users to hound Josuke and Rohan away from his son. His plans collapse one by one, and it is his own errant Arrow that pierces Yoshikage and awakens Bites the Dust. In the finale he hides inside Hayato Kawajiri's jacket to phone his son their targets' whereabouts, but Josuke sets the jacket alight, snatches the phone, and imitates the boy's voice to steer Yoshikage into detonating a bomb on his own father, burning away the photograph for good.
