Yoshikage Kira

Kira keeps his wavy hair loosely swept back, a stray lock or two out of line, and dresses in a pale Valentino suit set off by a dark tie stamped with a row of cat-eared skull motifs that echo his Stand. A salesman by trade, he wears much the same outfit throughout the story, shedding the jacket only once he is home. He stands at an average height with a lean, athletic frame.

To evade capture he later steals the face of Kosaku Kawajiri, gaining spiky dark hair, large thin-irised eyes, and sharper cheekbones while keeping his skull-patterned tie. A further transformation brought on by the Arrow leaves his hair perfectly combed and streaked with black, and as a ghost he takes on a body resembling his original with an outfit all its own.

Behind the face of an unremarkable salaryman, Kira is a psychopathic murderer ruled by egotism, compulsive habits, and a fixation on women's hands. Above all he craves a calm, invisible existence, deliberately underperforming so as never to place higher than third in any contest and biting his nails raw whenever life refuses to stay predictable. His killings are patient and opportunistic: he trails a woman home, murders her in private, and lets Killer Queen dissolve the body so the death registers only as a disappearance. He keeps his victims' severed hands as girlfriends, chatting with them and offering gifts until decay forces him to seek a replacement.

Beneath the composure sits a spoiled, self-absorbed temper. Anyone who exposes or humiliates him meets sudden brutality, as Koichi learns when Kira grinds his face into the pavement. He is fastidious to a fault, buying the finest lunch, wearing designer suits, and pausing mid-fight to straighten a stranger's inside-out sock, and he blames the Joestar Group for every disruption to his routine. That same overconfidence repeatedly betrays him, most fatally when he loudly declares his own name within Josuke's earshot. Stripped of his memories as a ghost, he loses the urge to kill yet clings to the same hunger for an undisturbed life.

Born in Morioh on the thirtieth of January 1966, Kira grew up under an overbearing mother while his father looked away, and he trained himself early to blend into the background with average grades and third-place finishes. He discovered his fetish while cutting the hands from a Mona Lisa print, and committed his first murder at eighteen, slaughtering Reimi Sugimoto, her family, and their dog. A Stand Arrow passed down by his father awakened Killer Queen, which let him vanish his victims without a trace. He went on to earn a literature degree, take an office job at Kameyu, and quietly kill dozens of women over the years before the story begins.

His careful life unravels when a boy named Shigechi accidentally swaps sandwich bags and glimpses one of Kira's trophies; Kira murders him, but a dying Harvest delivers a coat button that puts Jotaro and Koichi on his trail. Cornered, Kira looses Sheer Heart Attack, endures Echoes Act 3, and finally severs his own hand to escape, forcing Aya Tsuji's Stand to graft Kosaku Kawajiri's face and fingerprints onto him. Living as Kosaku, he blends into the Kawajiri household, tangles with the Stand cat Stray Cat, and loses his temper to kill the suspicious Hayato, only to have his father's Arrow pierce him and grant Bites the Dust, a power that loops time to erase anyone investigating him.

Hayato turns the time loop against him, baiting Kira into gloating his real name aloud so Josuke can strike. In the running battle that follows, Kira accidentally detonates the bomb that kills his own ghostly father, and Reimi reveals that Echoes has already crippled Bites the Dust. Jotaro halts time and beats him down, and with his fingers broken and his ability dead, Kira is crushed under an ambulance tire before a swarm of hands drags him into the next world. The spinoff Dead Man's Questions later finds him wandering as an amnesiac ghost who, remembering only his name, takes contract killings from a monk in hope of purpose.
