ZZ

ZZ comes across at first as a menacing brute, an impression resting almost wholly on his thunderous voice and a pair of grotesquely swollen arms. The truth is far less imposing. Once his car is smashed apart, the Joestars find that the rest of his frame is thin and puny beneath those hulking limbs, a mismatch Araki has confessed exists purely as a gag. Black hair and black eyes round out an otherwise plain figure.

Boastful, mulish, and certain that he outclasses everyone, ZZ enjoys belittling his rivals by comparing them to bugs. The story paints him as dim and reliant on brute strength, too impatient even to finish a Rubik's cube, yet he is no rank beginner in a fight. He stays composed under pressure and cons the Joestars on more than one occasion. His undoing is vanity: unable to keep from crowing, he lays out his scheme and the trick behind his Stand to the very enemies he means to destroy. The instant his car is wrecked and his power gone, the tough-guy front crumbles and he bolts.

The crusaders first encounter ZZ inching along the road toward Pakistan. When Jean Pierre Polnareff brashly overtakes the sluggish driver and kicks up stones to needle him, they notice the car has started shadowing them. ZZ plays games, waving them ahead only to line them up with a barreling truck, which Star Platinum stops before flinging the jeep aside in midair. He then twists a road sign to funnel them toward a dead end. As the pursuit resumes, Noriaki Kakyoin realizes they have gone astray and Polnareff jams the brakes at the sealed road's end, whereupon ZZ surfaces behind them and knocks the jeep over the edge. Kakyoin answers by casting out Hierophant Green, hooking the harness onto ZZ's car to halt the drop, and Jotaro orders Star Platinum to yank the line and hammer the vehicle, pitching ZZ down the slope.

He turns out to have survived, revealing himself to be a Stand user and that Wheel of Fortune can rebuild a car into a savage, upgraded form with absolute mastery over its every part. Bursting from the ground, he crushes the jeep, reshapes his ride into something fiercer, and hurls gasoline rounds while climbing the cliff face on spiked tires. The bullets exist to ignite the group, and a spark torches what he takes to be Jotaro, only for Jotaro to step out unscathed, having burrowed clear with Star Platinum so that just his jacket caught fire. Stripped of any defense, ZZ is flung from his own car and driven into the earth under a storm of punches. The group jeers at his scrawny real body and his now-tiny car, chains him to a rock beside a sign declaring he is training and not to be bothered, strips him of his passport and vehicle, and abandons him to starve.
