Stone Ocean

The story opens on Jolyne Cujoh sobbing in a holding cell, admitting to her irritated cellmates that a guard caught her touching herself. The taunting turns into a crude contest, which Jolyne wins by exposing that her chief tormentor is jailed for sexual assault. A lawyer visits and tells her that her father left a pendant for her, but when she picks it up the object cuts her, and in a flash of pain and anger she hurls it into the sewage.

On the bus to Green Dolphin Street Prison, she rides alongside Ermes Costello, the cellmate who mocked her, who warns her to keep money hidden and reveals she stashed hers inside breast implants. When a guard orders Jolyne off the bus, she overhears corrupt officers assaulting Ermes to strip her cash, and without thinking she tears the man's ear away.

Flashbacks fill in how she landed here. Her boyfriend Romeo struck and killed a pedestrian, and rather than face prison he begged Jolyne to conceal the body. Loving him, she hid the corpse in the car. Her lawyer pushed a plea bargain promising a one to two year sentence if she confessed, and though she insisted on her innocence, in court she pleaded guilty to everything. The deal was a trap. Because she had hidden the corpse, the bargain was worthless, and she drew a fifteen year sentence. Confronting the lawyer, she discovers he and Romeo plotted the whole thing.

Stripped of her name and rebranded FE40536, she mocks the guards through processing and her mugshot. Determined not to wait out her term for revenge, she has the warden Loccobarocco forward a letter to the smug lawyer.

The lawyer reads the note in his car, dismissing the prison as beneath him and switching on the air conditioning. A thread from Jolyne's new ability, Stone Free, coils around his neck and begins strangling him. He tries to shut off the cold air so the string will dry and release, and although the power does slip free, his car has already crashed into the pavement. The episode fades out on the closing theme Distant Dreamer.
