Strength

In his hideaway, DIO presses Enya on what it means to be alive. She answers that living is getting what one wants, and he builds on the idea, arguing that every desire is a fight, that losing breeds dread of the next fight, and that mastering that dread is the true meaning of life. When she asks whether he fears anything, he clarifies that the Joestars themselves do not frighten him, only the danger of underestimating them. Enya reassures him that seven Stand users are already closing in on the group.

Out at sea, the travelers and the Speedwagon Foundation sailors escorting them board a huge freighter and find it deserted, though every machine still hums. Anne discovers a caged orangutan, which Joseph waves off before the party splits up. A sailor is soon impaled by a crane hook the others swear moved by itself, and Kakyoin sweeps the vessel with Hierophant Green but detects no other life aboard.

The orangutan reveals unsettling intelligence, coaxing Anne into freeing it, offering her a freshly sliced apple, then lighting a cigarette and paging through a pinup magazine. Sticky from the saltwater, Anne slips off to shower, and the beast, having already killed the remaining sailors, comes after her. Jotaro cuts in, striking it with a lock, and after being smacked by a flying fan he confirms it is a Stand user without spotting the Stand itself. It melts into the wall to escape.

As the rest of the group begins sinking into the deck, they grasp that the ship itself is the Stand. The orangutan announces its power as Strength, named for the Tarot card, and taunts Jotaro over its own cunning. Jotaro distracts it and puts a jacket button through its skull using Star Platinum's Star Finger. It surrenders, but Jotaro rules that it broke the rules of being an animal and finishes it with a flurry of blows, after which the freighter warps down into a tiny boat and the group escapes on the lifeboats they arrived in.

DIO is informed of Strength's fall and of the six users still in play, one of them Enya's son, the man with two right hands, a link she signals by revealing her own pair of right hands. She admits she remained with DIO only to witness how his life ends. The group finally reaches Singapore and settles into a hotel, where a single doll waits on a nightstand in another suite.
