The Birth of a Superbeing

Having outwitted Stroheim, Kars unites the Stone Mask with the Red Stone of Aja and finally becomes the Ultimate Being. At dawn he looks little changed, but he stuns everyone by reshaping his own hand into a squirrel that shreds the surrounding Nazi soldiers and punches a hole clean through Stroheim's metal torso before returning to him. When the sun climbs and burns away the last of the vampire minions, Kars stands unharmed, shielded by the stone's power, and the whole planet looks doomed.

Joseph, cornered yet scheming, snatches the stone and bolts with Smokey to pull Kars away from the others while he works out a genuine plan. Delighting in the chance to kill his greatest nuisance, Kars sprouts wings and gives chase. Joseph leaves Smokey behind before he can pass on word of Lisa Lisa and boards a plane to lead his foe farther off, reasoning he might destroy Kars by dropping him into a volcano as he steers toward a volcanic island of Italy.

As Speedwagon tries to halt Joseph by shouting the truth about Lisa Lisa, the feathers Kars had left on the aircraft turn into piranhas while octopus tentacles snarl the propellers, blowing the engines apart. The plane plunges toward the island, and Joseph appears to bail out under a parachute. Kars realizes far too late that the chute is a decoy, because Joseph is still at the controls, driving the plane straight into him.

The Ultimate Being struggles to break away, but Stroheim materializes inside the plane and pins him in place. When the aircraft detonates, the cyborg saves Joseph by sacrificing his robotic legs to cushion the landing. The volcano then roars to life, flinging Kars into the lava, where he begins to melt.
