Sabu is a master of enka, the sentimental style of Japanese ballad, and the singing teacher of Killer B. Small, stern, and easily moved to tears by a heartfelt song, he wields an oversized axe with startling ease when the Akatsuki come hunting his pupil.
Sabu is a compact, middle-aged man with dark brown hair set in a curled bun and round black eyes beneath heavy brows. He favors a cream-colored kimono fastened by a purple sash from which two fuzzy tassels dangle in front, and mesh armor underneath reaches out past the kimono's sleeves.
Where enka is concerned, Sabu turns calm and utterly serious, as when he rebuked Killer B for clowning through a lesson and told him to treat the training with respect. The art stirs him deeply; he often weeps mid-performance and impresses on B that a song has to be sung with real feeling.
His slight frame belies remarkable power, and he swings a massive axe far larger than himself with easy control. He is sharp-eyed as well, quick to realize that Samehada was draining Killer B's chakra and blunting his strikes. When Kisame Hoshigaki broke into a practice session to seize B, Sabu readied himself after Ponta's charge was beaten back. Kisame's focus slipped to B, and Sabu seized the opening to attack alongside his student, though the sword Samehada turned aside both blows, taking only a small cut to the shoulder from one of B's blades. As B began to transform, Sabu spotted the sword feeding on his chakra. Freed later with Ponta from Kisame's water prison, he hung back until B seemed to be struggling, then rushed in, arriving just as Kisame's severed head dropped before him, felled by B and the Raikage. That corpse was afterward found to be a transformed clone of Zetsu.
