Shie Hassaikai Arc

Eleventh in My Hero Academia and second within the Rise of Villains Saga, this arc covers chapters 122 to 162 and episodes 62 to 78, following the Provisional Hero License Exam Arc and preceding the Remedial Course Arc. At forty-one chapters and three hundred twenty-three days of serialization it ranks third among the manga's longest arcs.

The Hero Work-Studies replace the old internships, and Izuku Midoriya lands under Sir Nighteye, All Might's estranged former sidekick, who has never accepted him as the right successor. The investigation they join targets Kai Chisaki and the Shie Hassaikai.

Class 1-A meets the Big 3, U.A.'s top three students, and Mirio Togata beats all twenty of them in minutes, phasing through every attack and dropping each of them with a gut punch. His Permeation costs him sight, hearing, breath, and touch every time he uses it, and he made it usable through nothing but volume of practice. That, he explains, is what a Work-Study buys.

Elsewhere, Overhaul comes to the League's hideout not to join but to recruit, dismisses Tomura Shigaraki for having ambition without a plan, and kills Magne and destroys Mr. Compress's arm when the meeting turns. Izuku, meanwhile, talks Mirio into an introduction to Sir Nighteye, who sets him a three-minute challenge to take a stamp, cannot be touched thanks to Foresight, and calls him mediocre to his face. Izuku loses, but he never stepped on a single piece of All Might memorabilia while doing it, and he is hired without being acknowledged.

On patrol the two encounter Overhaul with a bandaged, terrified girl he calls his daughter. Mirio talks Izuku down, and Nighteye later confirms the discipline was correct and the outcome unbearable. All Might then tells Izuku everything: six years ago Nighteye demanded he retire, showed him a foreseen and gruesome death, and left when he refused. Nighteye's visions do not change. All Might is meant to die within a year or two.

Fat Gum's team catches the other thread when Eijiro Kirishima takes a bullet meant for Tamaki Amajiki and preserves its contents: human blood and cells that damage the Quirk Factor itself. At Nighteye's conference the pieces assemble. Eri is no daughter of Chisaki's at all, but the true boss's granddaughter, her Rewind is being harvested into ammunition, and the plan is to sell the bullets to villains, sell the antidote to heroes, and monopolize both ends of the market.

The raid goes underground into a labyrinth Mimic wears like a body. Tamaki holds off three of the Eight Bullets alone and wins on the strength of what Mirio once told him about himself. Fat Gum absorbs Rappa's barrage until he can return it, and Eijiro, terrified, steps in front of those fists anyway because the only thing he fears more is being a coward again. Himiko Toga and Twice, planted by Tomura as part of a bargain, sabotage the yakuza from within by goading Mimic into exposing himself. Mirio reaches Overhaul first, takes Eri, refuses to be talked out of it, and is shot with a finished Quirk-destroying bullet while shielding her. He keeps fighting for five minutes as Permeation drains away, then keeps fighting without it.

Izuku arrives, Nighteye is impaled buying time and sees a future where Eri is not saved and both of them die, and Eri, moved by Mirio's refusal to give up on her, activates the Rewind she has spent her life dreading. It undoes Overhaul's fusion and repairs Izuku's body faster than One For All can break it, and with that safety net he goes to a hundred percent and takes Chisaki apart in the air above the ruins.

Shota Aizawa's Erasure stops Eri's runaway Quirk, and both she and Izuku collapse. Only three houses are destroyed and three people lightly injured, because Izuku moved the fight upward. Nighteye's wounds prove fatal. He reconciles with All Might, tells Izuku he really did twist a future that had never bent before, spends his Foresight one final time to promise Mirio an outstanding career ahead of him, and dies asking everyone to keep smiling.

Chisaki never reaches prison intact. The League ambushes his convoy, Mr. Compress and Dabi kill Snatch, and Tomura takes the finished bullets and serum before decaying both of Chisaki's arms, leaving the man who wanted to strip the world of Quirks unable to use his own. Mirio loses Permeation and turns down Izuku's offer of One For All, choosing instead to wait for Eri to learn control, and refuses to stop smiling about it. Elsewhere, Gran Torino and Naomasa Tsukauchi finally corner Kurogiri, only for the ground to open and Gigantomachia to answer his call.
