Hokuto Hario

Character

Compass Kid spins in a circle and points at whatever needs finding, which is a modest power for a modestly paid hero who mostly wanted his kids to think he was cool. In My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, that Quirk finds the one thing he should never have looked for: the villain patrolling beside him.

Appearance

Middle age had settled on him: short black hair parted slightly off the left of his forehead, a heavy chin, and small round eyes.

His costume ran a size tight, a bodysuit that left part of his stomach bare, closed at the waist by a C-buckled belt and printed across the chest with an eight-wind compass rose. Arrows decorated the light gloves, the light cape and the dark boots alike, and a small domino mask sat on his face with a pair of arrows pointing outward where eyebrows would be.

Personality

Hokuto was warm with everyone, strangers included, and cheerful about a job that ranked low and paid worse, because the work bought civilians peace of mind and that was enough for him. His family mattered above all of it, and what he wanted was to be the kind of hero his children could point to.

That same open nature is what killed him. Taking Number 6 at face value cost him any chance of seeing what the man really was.

History

With Bee☆Pop's rampage beginning, Compass Kid drew patrol duty alongside a hero calling himself Rock, in reality Number 6. They walked and talked, and Hokuto mentioned hoping to look cool in his kids' eyes before retirement came. An explosion cut it short; unable to raise backup, he and the other heroes turned to evacuating civilians instead.

A siren brought relief, and the two calmed the crowds by explaining it meant Endeavor's team was deploying, directing them into a nearby building. Hokuto used Pointer to locate people who had not gotten clear and asked Rock to help move them. Pointer works by spinning to activate, after which he indicates whatever he is searching for; because he points with arms and legs both, he can indicate as many as three directions simultaneously and still keep a leg to stand on.

When a second siren told the heroes to move in on Bee☆Pop, Hokuto wondered aloud why Endeavor had stopped attacking, and Rock explained it as the toll Hellflame takes on his body. Pushing ahead to capture the villain, Hokuto ran straight into a Bomb Bee, which Koichi Haimawari destroyed as he blurred past on his way to help other heroes. Hokuto then saw three heroes chasing Koichi get shot down and reported it. Number 6 tried to pin it on the Crawler, but Hokuto had watched Koichi assisting heroes, not shooting them, so he used Pointer to find whoever had.

His own finger came to rest on Number 6. He was hauled into an alley, where the villain dropped the mask and dismissed him as opportunistic scum who did not truly care about his family, and Hokuto's answer, that his family was everything to him, genuinely impressed the man. It did not save him. Knowing the truth was enough, so Number 6 fired the Bomber cells seeded in his arm, blowing him apart. All that survived was a severed hand, still pointing at his killer.
