Inko Midoriya

Her green hair sits a few shades deeper than her son's and falls straight to the shoulder, gathered at the back into a short, spiky tail that All Might once noted resembles the way Nana Shimura wore hers. The same deeper green colors her eyes, which are wide and round in the way Izuku's are.

Photographs of her younger years show a slender woman. Age and weight have since caught up with her, a change the series attributes directly to the guilt she carried over her son growing up without a Quirk.

Warmth defines her. Inko puts her son first as a reflex, and when the diagnosis came back and Izuku broke down sobbing, her instinct was not to console him but to apologize, as though the fault were hers to carry. Once he did have a power and a place at the school he had always wanted, that same instinct turned inward again, and she felt ashamed of ever having doubted him.

She is also protective to the point of obstruction. Watching All Might's brutal fights left her unable to accept that her son's own Quirk wounds him every time he uses it, and she refused to hand him over to U.A.'s dormitories, saying plainly that the school had lost her trust after his string of injuries and floating the idea that he transfer somewhere else entirely.

Mother and son share a set of quirks that go beyond powers. Both weep in comic torrents when frightened or overjoyed, enough to leave her badly dehydrated, and both panic at sudden trouble. In her case the panic often ends with her fainting outright.

With Hisashi working abroad, Inko has done nearly all of the raising of Izuku by herself. She is a reserved woman, listed as a fourth-generation Quirk user, and her own ability, informally called Attraction of Small Objects, lets her pull light items toward her body across a distance. Around the apartment she cooks for the two of them and sews well enough to matter later.

The turning point of her early years with Izuku was the moment she learned he would never manifest a power. She apologized rather than encouraged, and by her own admission she gave up on his dream, a regret she carried for a decade.

She set about repairing it once he was accepted. Working from the costume drawings filling his notebook, she stitched his first hero suit by hand in very little time and told him she was sorry for ever letting him believe she did not believe in him. His performance at the U.A. Sports Festival moved her to tears of pride.

Her opposition to the dormitory transfer was the last real standoff. All Might defused it by apologizing for his own negligence, promising that as her son's teacher he would spend everything he had on him, and pledging that U.A. would answer for its failures. She relented.
