Odd-Eye

Scrawny and carrying little muscle, Odd-Eye wears his mint green hair at neck length and slightly messy, with yellow eyes beneath it, at least in Yoco Akiyama's coloured sketch. Everything he puts on is dark: a jacket whose collars and skirts are oversized, trousers, gloves marked with magical symbols, and belts stacked at the waist, arms and neck. A patch covers his right eye, which is perfectly healthy. He lifts it when he means to release his true power, and lifting it accomplishes nothing at all.

He shares with Shihai Kuroiro and Fumikage Tokoyami a love of anything to do with darkness, and will hold forth at length on fate, the abyss and related subjects. The arcane appeals to him just as strongly, which shows in the costume, in the decor of his hero office, and in the outfits of his sidekicks, whom he calls his contracted familiars; their usual function is translating his pronouncements into plain speech. He plays the melodrama as thickly as he can, always angling to seem important and unknowable. He also laughs uncontrollably when cornered or facing something he has no answer for, which strangers tend to read as the opposite of panic. He keeps his personal details private to preserve the mystery, which is why even a hero obsessive like Izuku Midoriya had never heard of him.

A team-up request reaches Fumikage Tokoyami, Shihai Kuroiro and Izuku Midoriya with its text invisible on the page; Izuku sees only a blank sheet, and Fumikage brings the writing out with a lighter. The three find the agency behind imposing doors down an alley stairwell, where Odd-Eye and his sidekicks wait to greet them. He announces that they have been summoned so he can test whether they can face their inner truths on the way to becoming Pro Heroes, then lunges, touches Izuku's head, and triggers Mind Reaper, which forces anyone he is touching to expose their deepest secrets. Izuku broadcasts his worship of All Might and claps his hands over his mouth in shock.

Shihai resists, insisting there is no dark history in him to find, and is told he grows self-conscious around girls and cannot meet their eyes without going meek; the blush that follows, prompted by thoughts of Kinoko Komori, gives him away. Fumikage, gripped by the head, holds the Quirk off entirely, since sufficient willpower blocks it. Declared a true edgelord and deemed worthy of the true power, he watches Odd-Eye lift the eyepatch, at which point Dark Shadow bursts out, driven wild by the lair's darkness, and knocks the hero aside. Odd-Eye cackles helplessly while the students and sidekicks hunt for light; a stage light brings Dark Shadow back under control, and Odd-Eye recovers to preach about heroes standing together, until a sidekick points out that he stood still and laughed. Back at Heights Alliance, Izuku wonders how Fumikage had no embarrassing secret to pull out, and Dark Shadow nearly reveals one before being silenced.
