White pupils sit inside solid black eyes, which gives Raito a stark, unblinking look. Both his hair and his brows jut outward in jagged points, shaped to suggest crackling current. He wears the standard middle school uniform for boys, with a book bag slung over his right shoulder.

Study comes first with Raito, and he treats it with an almost humorless discipline. His recall is sharp, he refuses to leave any topic half-understood, and he held his own trading opinions on support gear with Mei Hatsume. That habit of picking everything apart earned him a comparison to Izuku Midoriya.

It works. He sits at the top of his school's rankings, widely tipped as a lock for the fiercely contested Hero Program at U.A. High School.

Raito came to U.A.'s Prospective Students Day alongside Fuji Fukiyose. The Support Course caught him first, where his conversation with Mei Hatsume about the gear she had built for the Sports Festival at U.A. ran long enough that Fuji had to drag him away. Hunting for the Hero Course, the pair stumbled into Business Course students instead and bolted before the smooth talk could hook them.

The Hero Course put them through an immersive lesson: a tag game pairing each visitor against an enrolled student tasked with stripping their headband, powers permitted on both sides. Raito drew Katsuki Bakugo. He opened by taking cover and darting between hiding spots, to Katsuki's irritation, and explained why the rules tilted in his favor, which Katsuki ignored. A lunge failed when contact triggered Raito's shocks, so Katsuki simply detonated the ground and let the dust storm tear the headband loose, ending it. Raito thanked him for the match and told Fuji he felt beaten by circumstance rather than skill; Katsuki's parting verdict, that the Hero Course was not for him, only puzzled him.

While Fuji went for drinks, Raito sat turning that comment over until the Business Course students found him again and pulled him into a mock argument about whether a society built on powers can sustain itself. He came back having changed his mind. The Hero Course had been other people's expectation rather than his own want; the debate was the thing that actually lit him up, and the Business Course looked like the better fit. Fuji, thrown at first, congratulated him on picking his own road, and the two resolved to ace the coming entrance exams. His unnamed electricity Quirk stays vague beyond the shocks it delivers to anyone who touches him.
