Shoto Todoroki

The division runs straight down the middle. White on the right, crimson on the left, bangs falling to the bridge of his nose and parted twice so nothing blocks his vision. Heterochromia comes with it, turquoise on the left, dark gray on the right. A burn scar spreads over the left side of his face from hairline to mid-cheek. Training under his father from childhood left him tall and solidly built, and though his expression rarely moves, Mina Ashido has called him the best-looking boy in Class 1-A.

His first hero costume was almost all off-white, a heating vest under shoulder straps, and over his entire left side, head included, a detachable shell of ice worn to reject the fire half of his Quirk. The replacement is dark blue: a heat-resistant jacket with a high collar holding a heating and cooling unit, baggy trousers, a plated vest that both heats and radiates, white boots with spiked soles, and a belt of capsules carrying first aid supplies. Costume Gamma later added armored bracing and knuckle plating that store heat and cold, a T-shaped stripe standing in for his surname, and nine capsules.

Phosphor draws a white-cored X of flame across his chest and shoulders, orange on the left and turquoise on the right, frost gathering at the roots of one half of his hair while hot air throws the other around. By the time skip he is taller and leaner with a sharper jaw, and the stripe on his vest has turned a vivid ice blue that recalls Toya's flames.

He began cold and closed off, a product of an abusive childhood and a fractured household, and the U.A. Sports Festival is what warmed him. He came out of it kinder and occasionally funny, though the distance never fully left and he is still not fluent socially: Camie Utsushimi asking for his number and Mt. Lady flirting both sailed past him.

The fire was the wound. Inherited from Endeavor, it stood for what was done to him and his mother and for the purpose he was born to serve, a tool built to surpass All Might. He swore off it, iced over his left arm as public rebellion, and could barely stand near his father. The irony, which both Inasa Yoarashi and Izuku spotted, is that hating Endeavor made him more like Endeavor.

His match with Izuku cracked it open. Izuku's insistence that the power was his own surfaced a buried memory of his mother's encouragement, and he burned for the first time since childhood. Reconciling with Rei, whom he has never blamed for the scar, let him accept the half he had disowned. Toward Endeavor he stays cold without being blind, interning at the agency purely for the training and telling him to drop the caring-parent act, though he does not rule out forgiveness so long as it is earned.

Learning that Dabi was Toya devastated him, and seeing his own old self in his brother's hatred convinced him he had to be the one to stop him, until his mother and siblings made it the family's fight instead. By the Final War he accepted that Toya chose murder regardless of what was done to him, while still wanting to know his brother down to his favorite food. Eight years on he is a working Pro Hero known increasingly as himself rather than Endeavor's son, taking bowl and chopstick making classes in Ichikawa.

Half-Cold Half-Hot gives him ice from the right side of his body and flame from the left. His cryokinesis is total: area-wide waves, barriers, shards stacked behind him for propulsion, glaciated ground to skate on, and the ice trails he surfs. Overusing one side turns on him, frostbite from the ice and heatstroke from the flame, which alternating cancels; he learned that control sitting in a barrel of water and balancing its temperature. Mastery of his left side eventually let him fuse the halves into a cold flame by circulating hot and cold blood, granting immunity to heat-based Quirks but faltering the moment his concentration does.

He placed second in both the Quirk Apprehension Test and the Sports Festival, where he beat Hanta Sero and Tenya Ida and fought Izuku to a near-draw. Against Katsuki Bakugo in the final he had the win available and put out his own fire, losing to Howitzer Impact. From the fight against Stain onward he committed to both halves, and Pixie-Bob counted him among Class 1-A's strongest. He is durable enough to take a five percent One For All punch and to endure Dabi's flames, which burn hotter than Endeavor's.

The third round of the Joint Training Battle showed him how badly he had neglected his fire, and he took up the fundamentals of Flashfire Fist, Endeavor's compressed white-hot technique. His named moves include Heaven-Piercing Ice Wall, Wall of Flames, and Flashfreeze Heatwave, which chills the air and then superheats it, plus Hell Spider, Jet Kindling, and Phosphor beneath Flashfire Fist. Phosphor in turn feeds Coldflame's Pale Blade and Great Glacial Aegir, a charging strike unleashing a wave of cold fire that smothers even Blueflame. Training with the Pussycats brought him level with Dabi in the Final War, and a stronger Great Glacial Aegir at the Gunga Mountain Villa ended his brother's self-destruction for good.
