Toshinori Yagi

Character

All Might held One For All eighth in its line, carried the title Symbol of Peace, and hid a ruined body inside a borrowed muscular frame. Appearance

Two forms share one man. The empowered All Might stands enormous and sculpted like a Western comic hero, jaw heavy, cheekbones high, blond hair swept back into a pair of forward tufts, his face usually shadowed so that only the blue of his pupils breaks through.

The true Toshinori is what All For One left behind. He is gaunt and angular with long limbs and an extended neck, his eyebrows gone and the whites of his eyes turned black. A large scar covers most of his left chest, where he lost his stomach and part of his lungs, and blood tends to come up whenever he is startled. Baggy clothing hid the difference in mass between his forms until his career ended. In his youth he was lean but fit, the sclerae still white; the muscle form came during his years in America.

His costumes progressed through four named eras, from Young Age through Bronze and Silver to the Golden Age look he is remembered by: a skin-tight blue bodysuit with a red Y-shaped symbol over a white diamond, a yellow belt with a red-eyed buckle, and shin-length gold boots. For his last stand he wore Armored All Might, a mechanical suit stored in his car Hercules that covered everything but his mouth so the smile still showed. The battle crushed his legs and destroyed the suit. Saved afterward by Katsuki Bakugo and Izuku, he regained his white sclerae and his eyebrows, and eight years later, wrinkled but walking again, he no longer needs the wheelchair.

Personality

The hero persona runs on comic book stereotype: exuberant, theatrical, forever smiling as he saves people. Nana Shimura planted that habit in him, convinced that whoever keeps smiling is the strongest person in the room. Out of the muscle form he goes quiet and solemn, ducking attention entirely. He is an optimist who keeps his goals tethered to reality, which is why he praised a Quirkless Izuku Midoriya for dreaming and then told him to pick another way to help people, judging the cruelty necessary to spare the boy years of frustration.

One goal has driven him since youth: to be a pillar the public could lean on in bad times. He saves compulsively, neglecting his paperwork until Sir Nighteye, and afterward Naomasa Tsukauchi, took the filing off his hands. After All For One wrecked him he hid the damage to protect morale, and the smile quietly became a way to bury his own fear. He was forgetting what heroism meant until Izuku, Quirkless, threw himself at the Sludge Villain to save Katsuki and reminded him. Self-sacrifice is the value he holds above all others, and he dropped Nighteye's carefully groomed successor for Izuku on the strength of that one selfless act.

Behind the campy image is a sharper mind than anyone credits, tactical about both combat and public speaking, and his estrangement from Nighteye over his prophesied death only ended when Inko Midoriya's request gave him reason to avoid it, once he understood Izuku needed a mentor rather than a savior. He is self-deprecating to the point of imposter syndrome, and he knows what his own success cost: society leaned on heroes until it became a nation of spectators, which is exactly what he never wanted, and which left Nana's grandson with nobody to turn to but All For One.

Abilities

One For All (former Quirk): Passed to him by Nana Shimura, it stockpiled raw power and pushed every physical attribute to superhuman levels. Unlike other holders he had an innate instinct for it and mastered it almost immediately, and uniquely he could use it to swell into a towering frame that concealed who he was. Even after the injury and after handing the Quirk on, the residual embers kept him ahead of everyone but All For One, and a portion of his consciousness remains imprinted in it as a vestige.

Overwhelming Physique: One punch could change the weather and level city blocks by wind pressure alone, and even weakened he was likened to a nuclear device; he beat Shock Absorption out of the USJ Nomu, though it took over 300 blows where his prime would have needed five. At his zenith he ran at Mach 10, once wiping out an army of Instant Villains and carrying nearby children to safety inside three seconds. An Air Cannon enhanced by All For One left him with scratches, and could work seventy-two consecutive hours and still answer an emergency in Osaka.

Indomitable Will: Remembering his resolve against the USJ Nomu let him push past 100% of his power. All For One's taunts about Nana and about Tomura's kinship to her staggered him and did not stop him; spent past the point of holding his muscle form and facing certain defeat, he poured what remained of One For All into United States of Smash.

Teaching: He began badly, unable to deliver a first lesson without a script, but he built the ten-month regimen that turned Izuku's body into a vessel for One For All, designed so the boy could not overtrain. Study and practice improved him enough that he now serves as U.A.'s Vice Principal.
