Episode 19 (Vigilantes)

On patrol in Naruhata under cloudy skies, Eraser Head takes a call from Midnight, who is home brushing an orange cat and glowing about her new teaching post at U.A. She loves the students, the curriculum, and how much she is learning herself, and considers school a place where people belong. He remembers only the bad parts. She has been working on recruiting him for months, argues that teaching is still a job, and points out that Present Mic starts next semester, so his turn is overdue. Eraser Head bristles at being treated as half of a pair. When Midnight says he is stuck on something in the past and refusing to look forward, his tone drops cold and he tells her to be quiet before hanging up on her, then charges toward screaming outside the alley.

The Crawler is fleeing a Wolf Villain dosed on Trigger while carrying a boxed stray kitten and a girl in a red raincoat. He hands off the kitten and draws the villain away, but the girl trips and loses her hold. Eraser Head snatches both girl and kitten with his Capturing Weapon and binds the villain's snout. Rain sends Hero and Vigilante under an awning together.

Asked what he will do with the kitten, Koichi has no plan past tonight, and Eraser Head walks him through the whole cost: food, cleaning, the vet, and where the animal goes after graduation, given a lifespan that can run twenty years. If he will not commit, put it back. Koichi asks whether he dislikes cats, noting the man has not looked at it once. Eraser Head says attachment is pointless when he cannot provide care, and that his reasoning is not really about logic but about knowing his own limits.

Years earlier, a second-year Shota found the same scene on his way to school: a soaked kitten in a box. He stared, then walked off, leaving his umbrella propped over it. He arrived late and drenched, told his teacher the state matched his mood, and sat down wondering whether he was cut out for this at all. Hizashi loudly mocked the pity party until Oboro Shirakumo climbed through the window on a Cloud, told him off, returned Shota's umbrella, and then stripped naked in class because wet underwear is miserable. Censoring himself with his Quirk, he reached into the Cloud and produced the kitten.

With Hero Work-Studies approaching, the homeroom teacher names Shota, Hizashi, and Oboro as the only three without placements, then sends the class into joint exercises with Class 2-B: one-on-one combat, rescue drills in a mock city, and dance lessons meant to teach expressiveness. The staff later assess all three. Hizashi's Voice is versatile enough to succeed, though settling on a niche may prove hard. Oboro's grades lag, but his attitude carries him if allowed his own pace. Shota excels academically and practically yet has no clear image of the Hero he wants to be, which his teacher ties to Erasure. During combat training, Sensoji of 2-B complained that Shota makes fights boring, calls his Quirk useless in a fistfight, and demands that he stop coasting on gimmicks.

Over lunch on the roof, Oboro argues the opposite: since superpowered combat comes down to how Quirks interact, Erasure levels the field and forces close quarters. Shota doubts he is any good at that. Nemuri drops in from above, delights in their rule-breaking, defends her revealing costume as function and form combined, and vows to shatter the limits of acceptable Hero attire, an ambition that ironically produced stricter exposure laws within the year. She names the kitten Sushi after Oboro's favorite food, agrees to foster him temporarily, and later returns to offer Shota and Oboro Work-Study slots at the Purple Revolution Agency under His Purple Highness.

Chapters 59 and 60 of the Vigilantes manga supply the material, placing the episode in the School Days arc. Because the anime adapts School Days ahead of the Sky Egg arc, its present-day framing lands in late autumn rather than the following early spring.

This is the second time the franchise has produced an arc out of order, after the main series' fifth season swapped the Endeavor Agency and Meta Liberation Army arcs. In that case the chronology held, with Meta Liberation Army treated as flashback, whereas here the timeline itself is rearranged.

Adaptation changes are small. The Wolf Villain's Trigger use is made explicit, the girl's fall and rescue run slightly longer, and the villain is tied up outside a shop rather than beside a building. Students wear summer uniforms throughout, Sushi's Cloud hovers in front of Shota's desk instead of resting on it, Hizashi is shown offering the towel Oboro shouts for, and the training montage, Nemuri's introduction, and the Purple Revolution pitch all gain extra material, including an original scene showing His Purple Highness on video.
