Episode 30

Shoto Todoroki tells Tenya Ida to hold on to the man he set out to become. Ashamed that his friends are bleeding because of him, Tenya remembers the years when Tensei was the reason he wanted the job at all. Shoto keeps driving the Hero Killer backward, earning a remark that the boy leans on his Quirk far too heavily in a fight. Tenya reaches the conclusion Stain handed him: he is not a real hero yet, and the only way to become one like Tensei, Izuku Midoriya, and Shoto is to get up. The katana is already swinging when a Recipro Burst kick shatters it.

Tenya apologizes for dragging everyone into his mess. Stain refuses the apology on different grounds, insisting the boy will never reform into anything genuine. Shoto tells him to ignore it; Tenya agrees with the assessment and keeps going anyway, because quitting means the name Ingenium dies with him. Fire pushes Stain off again. Native urges Shoto to run, and he refuses, certain the killer will never leave him an opening. He works out that Bloodcurdle is poorly suited to fighting several people at once, but notes that Stain has only grown more relentless about reaching his targets.

Tenya intercepts a throwing knife meant for Shoto and asks him to freeze his engines. A knife pins him in place, Izuku's mobility returns, and Shoto does as asked, letting Tenya debut Recipro Extend. The two of them scale the alley walls and strike the Hero Killer from both sides at once. Stain reels, slashes at Tenya, and gets kicked higher into the air, where Shoto's fire finally connects. Ice freezes a path for the pair to land on and locks the villain down at the same time. When the dust clears, the three students realize the Hero Killer is beaten.

Elsewhere in the city, Gran Torino and Endeavor press their own fight. The Nomu weathers Hellflame by absorbing it and spitting it back, but Endeavor notices the initial strike still hurt it and dismisses the absorption trick as weak. Gran Torino adds that it carries several Quirks, then ends the argument by driving it into the pavement. Asked to help the other professionals against the remaining creatures, Endeavor instead remembers the coordinates Shoto sent and sends Gran Torino there in his place.

Endeavor reaches the other heroes in time to stop a Nomu from crushing one of them, clocks its regeneration, and burns the head to carbon so the cells have nothing to rebuild from. The last one runs, and because it is carrying an injured person, the number two hero threads a flaming lance into its skull, catching the professional as the grip releases. Shoto ties up the unconscious killer while Native carries Izuku out to the street, where Gran Torino meets them and tears into his student for leaving the train against orders. Other professionals arrive to call ambulances and the police.

Tenya is mid-apology when the surviving Nomu drops out of the sky and snatches Izuku. Stain, barely conscious, freezes it with his Quirk, grabs the boy, and puts a blade through the creature's brain. Wrecked as he is, he declares that counterfeit heroes and society's petty criminals both have to be purged for a just world to exist. Endeavor arrives, and the sight enrages him. Stain challenges every hero present at once. The bandages fall from his face and the bloodlust pouring off him nails everyone in place, Endeavor included. He moves to attack, and his punctured lungs drop him unconscious first. Even robbed of the ability to fight, he was the last man on his feet.

The seventeenth entry of the second season adapts chapters 54 and 55 plus the first ten pages of chapter 56, closing out both the students' fight with the Hero Killer and Gran Torino and Endeavor's bout with the Nomu. Singin' to the Sky opens it and 'Cause You're My Hero. closes it, and it debuts Tenya's Recipro Extend.

Tensei's flippant reply when his brother asked what drew him to the job is skipped. Shoto sends a second wave of ice after Stain dodges his fire blast, Izuku shouts his name as his arm is nearly severed, and the explanation of Stain's shifting behavior to Native is intercut with more of the fight. Izuku cries out when Tenya takes the throwing knives, then discovers he can move; his planning for how to reach Stain is cut, and Shoto now provides covering fire while Tenya pulls the blade from his forearm. The buildup to the double attack runs considerably longer.

Two sequencing changes matter. Gran Torino's Quirk goes without a formal introduction from the narrator, and where the manga has Tenya's kick and Shoto's fire land together, here the fire finishes Stain after the kick, with Shoto's preparation moved to the moment the villain is stunned. Izuku's reaction to the knockout is shown, as is Endeavor's full fight with the muscular Nomu and his pursuit of the winged one.
