Roaring Upheaval

Mezo Shoji explains why the shadow beast has slipped its leash. Moonfish ambushed the pair and severed one of his replicated limbs, a wound he can simply regrow, but the sight of it filled Fumikage Tokoyami with rage and sorrow, and those feelings handed control to Dark Shadow. The creature now strikes at any sound and seals off the route to Katsuki Bakugo.

Mezo proposes luring it back toward camp where light can weaken it, then asks Izuku Midoriya to pick one friend to save. Izuku refuses the choice entirely. He has Mezo sprout mouths to bait the shadow, and the two sprint through the trees until they reach Shoto Todoroki and Katsuki, who are stalling Moonfish without wrecking their surroundings. Dark Shadow traps the villain under one arm, and on Katsuki's cue the pair wait until the teeth are shattered and Moonfish is hurled away before flooding the clearing with fire and explosions. The light shrinks the Quirk back to normal. Fumikage thanks his classmates and apologizes; Katsuki loudly rejects the escort forming around him and is ignored.

Elsewhere, Himiko Toga presses Ochaco Uraraka and Tsuyu Asui for more blood than her first cut supplied. She slashes Tsuyu's tongue, pins her to a tree by the hair, and cheerfully declares them friends. Ochaco pins the villain with martial arts learned from Gunhead, only for Himiko to needle her about a crush and stab her with a draining needle while she is distracted. The arriving group scatters Himiko, who withdraws rather than face numbers.

During the reunion, Katsuki and Fumikage vanish. Mr. Compress announces the theft, argues both boys belong on the villain side of the ledger, and bounds away from Shoto's ice, calling his allies together for extraction. Twice and Dabi make for that meeting spot, while Yuga Aoyama freezes with fear guarding the unconscious Toru Hagakure and Kyoka Jiro. Yosetsu Awase carries an injured Momo Yaoyorozu clear of a chainsaw Nomu, and once Dabi recalls it, Momo builds a tracker for Yosetsu to weld onto its back. Tiger and Mandalay restrain Magne and Spinner until Kurogiri arrives to pull them out. Unable to match the thief on foot, Izuku combines Ochaco and Tsuyu's Quirks to launch the group airborne, with Mezo steering, and the three slam down on Mr. Compress in front of the waiting villains.

Dark Shadow overpowers Moonfish before Katsuki and Shoto use their Quirks as light sources to restore Fumikage's control. Ochaco applies Gunhead's grappling in a real fight for the first time, and Himiko's blood collection falls short of her three-person quota. Mr. Compress abducts both Katsuki and Fumikage and calls the League to the rendezvous point.

Momo's tracking device is welded onto the chainsaw Nomu, planting the lead that will later guide the heroes. The episode ends with Izuku, Shoto and Mezo pinning Mr. Compress underneath them, dropping the students directly into the Vanguard Action Squad's gathering.

The forty-fourth entry in the anime and the sixth of the third season, this installment belongs to the Forest Training Camp arc. It aired in Japan on 12 May 2018 and in the United States on 7 April 2019, drawing on portions of chapter 79 plus chapters 80 and 81. The opening is Odd Future and the ending is Update.

Several beats run longer on screen than on the page, including Moonfish's clash with Mezo. The adaptation also gives Fumikage visible tears once Dark Shadow pins the villain, cuts Tiger's Quirk explanation, holds Yosetsu's Quirk description back until a much later episode, and adds a shot of Ochaco splinting Izuku's arms before the launch.
