What a Twist!

Back at camp, Eijiro Kirishima begs Vlad King to let him go after Katsuki Bakugo before the League can vanish with him. The teacher refuses, noting that only the students already in the woods are cleared to fight. Dabi then blows the classroom door apart, and Vlad King restrains him with blood, warning him not to write off the heroes. The villain answers that the loss is already booked, since public trust in U.A. and All Might will collapse once a missing student becomes news. Shota Aizawa destroys the figure, identifying it as a double meant purely to tie up pros.

At the rendezvous point, the escort squad lands on Mr. Compress and immediately pays for it. He shrinks into a marble, Dabi throws fire that scorches Izuku Midoriya and Mezo Shoji, Twice ties up Shoto Todoroki, and Himiko Toga tackles Izuku until Mezo knocks her clear. Mezo reveals he lifted the marbles from the villain's pocket, but the performer springs his real trick: those held nothing but Shoto's ice, while the genuine pair sat in his mouth the whole time. A navel laser from Yuga Aoyama shatters the mask mid-bow and forces the marbles out. Mezo catches one; Dabi seizes the other, confirms the prize, and drags Katsuki through Kurogiri's gate while Izuku screams after him. Katsuki's only answer is to tell him to stay back.

The aftermath is counted in numbers. Emergency crews douse the forest fires. Of forty students, fifteen are critical from Mustard's gas, eleven carry other injuries, thirteen are untouched, and one is gone. Pixie-Bob is in serious condition and Ragdoll is missing, while Muscular, Moonfish and Mustard are all in custody.

Reporters swarm the school gates the next morning. All Might sits with Nezu, Snipe, Present Mic and Midnight to weigh the damage, and Nezu warns that Katsuki was chosen precisely because his temper makes a convincing recruit; his defection would finish U.A.'s name. Present Mic raises the possibility of an informant inside the school and is shot down for the sake of staff trust. A call from Detective Tsukauchi ends the meeting: the League's hideout has been found. In the villains' bar the captive watches the coverage with his kidnappers. At the hospital, most of Class 1-A visits a weeping Izuku. Eijiro and Shoto reveal that they overheard Momo Yaoyorozu telling All Might about the tracker on the Nomu, and propose a rescue. Tenya Ida argues for leaving it to the pros, and as the two clash, Eijiro turns to Izuku for a verdict.

Vlad King and Shota discover that Dabi's assault on the camp classroom is only a decoy double. The Bakugo Escort Squad physically captures Mr. Compress and is still outplayed by his marble switch, and Yuga's laser recovers the hostages too late to matter.

Katsuki is carried through Kurogiri's warp gate, completing the League's mission. U.A. holds an emergency staff meeting where the possibility of a traitor is first voiced, Tsukauchi locates the hideout, and Eijiro and Shoto set the unsanctioned rescue in motion using Momo's tracker.

The forty-fifth episode overall and the seventh of season three, closing out the Forest Training Camp arc. It premiered in Japan on 19 May 2018 and in the United States on 13 April 2019, adapting chapters 82 and 83. Odd Future opens and Update closes.

Scenes pairing the students with Vlad King and Eraser Head are staged differently from the panels, and the escort squad brawl is expanded, notably the scuffle between Himiko, Mezo and Izuku plus a shot of Mr. Compress returning to full size. The anime closes U.A.'s gates for the press scrum where the manga leaves them open and adds shouted questions. It also builds out the aftermath considerably: Ragdoll's bloodied headgear, student reactions, rescue workers at work, a flashback to Izuku meeting Tomura at the mall, emptied classrooms and corridors, the abduction running on a billboard and at the airport, and the League watching it all from their bar.
