Summary

Police investigators take stock. All For One is beaten, but the world has lost its Symbol of Peace, and they expect the situation to deteriorate. Tomura Shigaraki, once dismissed as a petulant child, has fixed his attention on reshaping society, so his capture needs a new approach.

At the hospital, All Might tells Naomasa and Gran Torino that the last sparks of the Quirk have burned out of him. He still means to go after Tomura, his view of the villain rearranged by the blood tie to Nana Shimura. Startled by the revelation, Gran Torino explains that after her husband's murder Nana handed her one child to foster care to keep him clear of her life, and asked both men to stay away from her family. He then tells Toshinori his judgment is compromised and he will hesitate at the worst moment. He and Naomasa will run the hunt; All Might's place is at U.A., raising students.

The rescue group hands Katsuki over to the police and is released half a day later. Shoto goes home to his sister, and a crash down the hall announces Endeavor, who has set the training room alight in fury at inheriting the top ranking through All Might's failure rather than earning it. Izuku falls asleep over retirement coverage and wakes to a summons to the beach, where All Might punches him for charging into Kamino, notes he can barely hold his old form now, then hugs him, proud that he came through unhurt, and pledges his life to raising the next Symbol of Peace.

Nezu, hearing speculation that a weakened All Might makes U.A. a target, sends him out with Shota on home visits to sell a boarding-school plan. Kyotoku Jiro objects, his daughter's injury feeding the doubt, until Kyoka reveals the family already agreed, and her father turns out to be a devoted fan moved by the victory over All For One. At the Bakugo house, Mitsuki agrees instantly, smacks her son for U.A.'s troubles, and the shouting match that follows leaves Masaru helpless and All Might bemused. She is grateful because her son's pride has become her problem, and she appreciated Shota framing it publicly as ambition. The family bows and entrusts him to the school. Outside, Katsuki asks what Izuku is to All Might. The answer, just another student, convinces nobody. At the Midoriya apartment, Inko admits she wants her son out of U.A. entirely, frightened by his repeated injuries and the bloody road his idol walked. Izuku returns with Kota's letter and argues that saving the boy already made him a hero regardless of which course he attends. All Might bulks up to bow, apologizes for the harm done, names Izuku as his choice of successor, shrinks back, and asks Inko to judge the school U.A. is trying to become. He offers his life to the task. Shaken, she asks only that he stay alive, properly, and bring her son up, then gives her permission.

In Tartarus, All For One is walked to his cell, reflecting that All Might's mistake was refusing to die. His pupil's hatred has hardened, he has comrades and knows how to gather more, and the master concludes the boy will manage. It is Tomura's turn now.

Notes

The fiftieth episode and the twelfth of season three, closing the Hideout Raid arc. It aired 23 June 2018 in Japan and 18 May 2019 in the United States, adapting the end of chapter 94, chapters 95 and 96, and the first fifteen pages of chapter 97, with Odd Future and Update.

Cut from the adaptation: the Hero Billboard Chart JP retirement announcement, any word on Best Jeanist's condition, and Ragdoll being comforted over her lost Quirk while Kota watches. Both heroes' status is relegated to the break bumper. All For One's transfer scene loses its dialogue with the guard and Stain no longer appears among the Tartarus prisoners. Also dropped are the line about Nezu and Vlad King visiting Class 1-B's families and Vlad King thanking All Might.
