The Test

Mei Hatsume seizes on the idea of a kick-based fighting style and offers to build new leg components, with Izuku repeating that the costume's basic design should stay intact. Power Loader signs off. Ochaco watches the two of them talk and looks away.

Gym Gamma, four days on: Izuku's upgraded soles let him shred the falling rock aimed at All Might. Denki and Eijiro are impressed by the shift in his style. Izuku credits Mei's soles and hedges that Shoot Style hardly qualifies as a super move, though All Might calls it a real step forward. Shota orders him to keep clear of training for his own safety, and when Katsuki storms off after telling him to be careful, All Might realizes the protection now runs the other way.

Denki and Eijiro show off their own upgrades before Vlad King brings Class 1-B in. Neito's usual needling stops dead when Shota reveals the two classes will not be pitted against each other, and that most examinees will be upperclassmen with more experience than any first-year.

That night the girls unwind downstairs together. Momo's intended technique is still beyond her body, and Tsuyu's new move leans harder into her frog traits. Ochaco is somewhere else entirely, and when Tsuyu draws her out she admits her heart has wandered. Mina guesses Tenya or Izuku, and the embarrassed Ochaco floats off with her Quirk, only to catch sight of Izuku practicing kicks outside and stare.

On exam morning at the arena, Shota reassures a nervous Minoru and tells the class a license makes them semi-pros. Eijiro's Plus Ultra chant is hijacked by Inasa Yoarashi, whose classmate Seiji scolds him and who apologizes by slamming his forehead into the ground. Shota knows him: a Shiketsu first-year, top scorer among U.A.'s recommended applicants, who declined the acceptance. Izuku is stunned to hear his ability rated above Shoto's.

Emi Fukukado ambushes Shota with his hero name, jokes, and flirtation, all of it deflected. Izuku happily identifies her as Ms. Joke, whose Outburst leaves victims helpless with laughter, and she presents her Ketsubutsu class. Tatami and Yo greet Class 1-A warmly, though Katsuki dismisses Yo's friendliness as insincere and Tatami asks Shoto to sign something after watching the Sports Festival. Emi notices that Shota has withheld something.

Inside, Yokumiru Mera of the Hero Public Safety Commission opens by complaining about exhaustion and understaffing. The first stage is a free-for-all built around speed, since heroes now reach crises fast: only the first hundred of the 1,540 candidates advance. Each examinee carries six red balls and wears three targets visibly; a person is out once all three are lit, credit going to whoever lands the third, and two eliminations are required to advance. The room unfolds into a vast arena of mixed terrain, which Yokumiru blames for his tiredness. In the stands Emi teases Shota about his fly, remarks on twenty students with nobody expelled, and finally names the omission.

Izuku argues that candidates will cluster by school and proposes Class 1-A move together. Katsuki walks off with Eijiro chasing, and Shoto separates because his Quirk needs space. Izuku warns against going alone, since the Sports Festival broadcast every ability they have. Emi explains the constant: the other schools always open by hazing U.A. Yo Shindo leads the barrage. Izuku answers with a Shoot Style kick as the rest of the class covers itself with their Quirks. Shota's reasoning is that a warning would not have removed the obstacle, that pro heroes' abilities are public knowledge too, and he apologizes to Emi for his students being further along. Izuku rallies his classmates to hold.

Ultimate Move Training concludes with Izuku's Shoot Style and Mei's leg upgrades in place, and Class 1-B learns it will not be competing against Class 1-A. Ochaco's feelings for Izuku surface for the first time.

At the exam, Class 1-A meets Inasa Yoarashi of Shiketsu and Ms. Joke's Ketsubutsu students. Yokumiru Mera explains the first stage: 1,540 candidates, three visible targets each, six balls, two eliminations to advance, and only 100 spots. The stage opens with the traditional mass assault on U.A., led by Yo Shindo.

The rule that only the third target scores the elimination is spelled out on screen but not in the manga, and Izuku's reflection shifts accordingly: he expects target theft where the manga has him assume candidates will steal each other's balls. Yokumiru voices his exhaustion more often here. Added material includes reactions to the hundred-passer announcement and Sports Festival flashbacks, and Inasa politely takes his leave of Class 1-A before departing with his schoolmates.
