Class 1-B

Class 1-B belongs to the Heroics Department at U.A. High School, a first-year room holding twenty students in total. All Might points out an awkward truth about it. Where Class 1-A has sharpened itself in real combat by being dragged into repeated villain attacks, the data says 1-B has actually improved more since the school year opened, precisely because it stayed out of trouble and could quietly pour that time into drawing out its own potential.

The records back him up. Just one student here fell short on the First Term Final Exam against five from the rival class, and every one of them cleared the Provisional Hero License Exam, which two of 1-A's could not manage. Where the class trails is head-on fighting, strategic thinking, and quick reactions, the same experience gap read from the other direction. Far fewer of them reached the closing rounds at their first Sports Festival, and the Joint Training Battle went to Class 1-A three to one with a draw.

The defining feature of the class is its rivalry with Class 1-A, which most of the students hold in a friendly register. Neito Monoma pushes it well past that, jealous of the popularity and strength the other class attracts and set on toppling them. Contact between the two classes stays limited because of it, and the arrangement is lopsided: 1-B treats 1-A as rivals while 1-A does not appear to return the sentiment, leaving the two on neutral terms. Itsuka Kendo, Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu, and Nirengeki Shoda carry no such grudge and are openly friendly.

The friction drops away when it matters, Neito excepted, since his obsession runs past reason. During the League of Villains' attack on the mountain training camp, 1-B students readily took gas masks from 1-A's Momo Yaoyorozu to survive Mustard's Quirk, and Yosetsu Awase later risked his life to shield her from a Nomu. The two classes combined again in the Paranormal Liberation War, where students from both tried to sedate Gigantomachia using jars Momo produced, hoping to keep him away from Jaku City. He got through regardless, though the attempt did land one jar in his mouth, and it eventually took hold and put him to sleep once he had reached the city.

Every student took part in the Final War and survived it. The class then moved up to second year, and eight years later its members had graduated into careers as Pro Heroes and Sidekicks.

Neito Monoma, whose Copy Quirk backs the hero name Phantom Thief, is the loudest voice in the room. Itsuka Kendo fights as Battle Fist with Big Fist, and Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu goes by Real Steel using Steel. The rest of the twenty run as follows: Yosetsu Awase, Weld, as Welder; Sen Kaibara, Gyrate, as Spiral; Togaru Kamakiri, Razor Sharp, as Jack Mantis; Shihai Kuroiro, Black, as Vantablack; Yui Kodai, Size, as Rule; Kinoko Komori, Mushroom, as Shemage; Ibara Shiozaki, Vines, as Vine; Jurota Shishida, Beast, as Gevaudan; Nirengeki Shoda, Twin Impact, as Mines; Pony Tsunotori, Horn Cannon, as Rocketti; Kosei Tsuburaba, Solid Air, under his own name; Setsuna Tokage, Lizard Tail Splitter, as Lizardy; Manga Fukidashi, Comic, as Comicman; Juzo Honenuki, Softening, as Mudman; Kojiro Bondo, Cemedine, as Plamo; Reiko Yanagi, Poltergeist, as Emily; and Hiryu Rin, Scales, as Long Weizi.

No other class at the school has confirmed exchange students from abroad: Pony Tsunotori comes from America and Hiryu Rin from China. Kojiro Bondo is the tallest at 191cm and Manga Fukidashi the shortest at 140cm. Polling the School Festival himself, Neito claimed his class beat 1-A by two ballots, a figure his self-researched method makes suspect. Their festival play, Romeo, Juliet, & the Prisoner of Azkaban: The Return of the Kings, mashes together works by William Shakespeare, J. K. Rowling, and J. R. R. Tolkien, and squeezes in a Star Wars parentage reveal between Neito's Romeo and Tetsutetsu's antagonist.
