Feathers

Feathers, written in Japanese as フェザーズ, is a small idol unit working the underground circuit rather than the mainstream charts. The act consists of two performers, the twin sisters Miu and Yu, and the pair are booked to play the live event held at the Marukane Department Store.

Costuming carries most of the duo's visual identity. Each sister wears a sleeveless dress cut to the knee with a pointed hemline, finished with a heavy collar draped over the shoulders and a single oversized feather pinned off to one side. Tights and a lone opera glove complete the look, all rendered in white against pale and deep blues. The trick is that the two costumes are reflections rather than copies: whichever way Miu's design leans, Yu's leans the opposite, and the color placement flips to match.

Before their big break the twins had already built a modest following, playing a string of smaller rooms and picking up recognition along the way. That groundwork paid off at Narufest, their first genuinely large concert.

Rather than take the stage alone there, the twins folded into a combined act billed as FeatherHATS, joining the Mad Hatters, Pop☆Step, and the East Naruhata High Dance Squad.

Writer Hideyuki Furuhashi has suggested the sisters were never really indie idols by design, picturing them instead as amateurs pushed onstage by a relative during some live event, which puts them in much the same position Pop☆Step started from. Artist Betten Court notes that left-right symmetry is baked into the concept, meaning both girls are required for the look to work. He originally sketched them with wings instead of feathers and has said he would soften their edges given another pass.

Miu is one half of the duo and one of the twin sisters behind the act. Her costume is the left-facing half of the mirrored pair.

Yu is the other sister. Her outfit reverses Miu's, facing right with the colors swapped, so that the two read as a single symmetrical image when they stand together.
