Marukane Department Store

The store fronts Naruhata Station as a large building with a cube on the roof bearing the company logo. That rooftop holds around three hundred people and sits near a food court where shoppers grab snacks. The business has been running for at least a hundred years under an unnamed president. It appears first in Chapter 20 of the Vigilantes manga and Episode 8 of its anime.

Locals shorten the name to Marukane. Its directors promote the musical group FeatherHATS, which is why Kazuho Haneyama and Koichi Haimawari turn up so often to hash out band business with the other performers and the woman who represents them, Makoto Tsukauchi. A conference room in the building doubles as their green room.

Captain Celebrity's fight with an Instant Villain wrecked the building and shut it down for repairs. Planning the reopening, the store's director decided to stage a live show on the roof using cheap local talent that could fit the schedule, and Pop☆Step landed on the list.

Makoto pushed the idea further. Calling as chief manager of the Captain Celebrity Agency, she told the event planner her agency backed the project and wanted only a credit for the hero in return. She also warned that a bare-bones venue would look tacky, and offered to supply equipment and staff herself.

Management wanted an ensemble of young local performers to sing the store's theme song. Pop☆Step was paired with the rock band Mad Hatters, the duo Feathers, and the dancers of East Naruhata High, and the four acts merged into FeatherHATS. Despite early trouble, the show landed, and between that success and Makoto's maneuvering, Kazuho took a real step forward as an idol. The branch has run small Narufest events on the roof ever since.

An unnamed president controls the company, while unnamed directors and event planners drive its music promotions. Makoto Tsukauchi negotiates with them on behalf of the Captain Celebrity Agency and later shepherds the acts. Kazuho Haneyama performs as Pop☆Step, joined under the FeatherHATS banner by Koichi Haimawari, the Mad Hatters, Feathers, and East Naruhata High's dancers.
