Chapter 104 opens the license exam's first round, where six tagged targets buy a pass. Class 1-A holds off Ketsubutsu Academy, an earthquake scatters them across the arena, and a single windstorm wipes one hundred and twenty rivals off the board at once.
Only the first hundred examinees to tag six targets survive the Provisional Hero License Exam's opening round. Class 1-A mostly swats away the incoming balls. Shikkui Makabe stiffens the projectiles while Itejiro Toteki drives them into the dirt along flawless arcs. Kyoka Jiro cracks the ground open with Heartbeat Distortion, exposing which students each ball is hunting, and Mina Ashido throws up an Acid Veil over Minoru Mineta. Fumikage Tokoyami wraps himself in Dark Shadow through Black Abyss and swipes at Tatami Nakagame with a ball in hand, only for her Telescopic Quirk to carry her clear as she praises the class. With Yokumiru Mera reporting nobody through yet, Izuku Midoriya elects to study Quirks first, since every target is guarded and stray hits are hopeless.
Up in the stands, Ms. Joke remarks to Shota Aizawa that whoever seizes the initiative rewrites the fight. Down below, Yo Shindo promises to break the wall of defense and drops Tremoring Earth on the arena, his Vibrate Quirk pulverizing the floor and stealing everyone's footing, at the cost of the shock rebounding into him.
Elsewhere the tremor barely registers before every ball in the vicinity is torn into the sky. Inasa Yoarashi, thrilled to be in the thick of it, stands atop a building and hurls the whole swarm back down with his wind. Mera logs him as the first to pass and reels at the count: one hundred and twenty examinees gone in a heartbeat.
Steadying himself, Izuku concludes Ketsubutsu Academy has studied U.A.'s Quirks thoroughly and that only teamwork answers their coordination. The disadvantage thrills him anyway. Then a ball lands on him. The girl responsible, Camie, chides him for drifting off mid-battle, finds it strange that he can still grin from behind, and decides it looks cool. Izuku sharpens up for the fight.
Class 1-A repels the opening barrage from Ketsubutsu Academy's Class 2-2, but Yo Shindo's Tremoring Earth breaks the ground and splits them apart.
Inasa Yoarashi sweeps up every nearby ball with his wind and becomes the exam's first qualifier, eliminating one hundred and twenty examinees in the process.
Camie of Shiketsu High tags Izuku while he is distracted, opening their confrontation.
The nineteen-page chapter ran in issue 39 of 2016, published August 29, 2016, and belongs to volume 12 under the Provisional Hero License Exam arc. Its cover assembles most of Class 1-A alongside Yo Shindo and Shikkui Makabe.
The material was adapted across Episode 53 and Episode 54 of the anime. Debuting here are Heartbeat Distortion, Acid Veil, Tremoring Earth, Trajectory: Crescent Moon, and Piercing Twilight Claws, along with the Stiffening, Boomerang, Telescopic, Vibrate, and Whirlwind Quirks. Action stays inside Takoba National Stadium.
Horikoshi's author comment thanks a reader who mailed him space food.

Naruto vs Luffy with the twist nobody asked for: Luffy tickled Hinata on date night, and she kind of liked it. We break down the whole fight and commit to a winner....

There are no women on Namek. That isn't an oversight, it's the biology. Why we handed Piccolo the one thing his own species rules out, and why it had to be trap soul....
In Chapter 104, titled White-Hot Battle! To Each Their Own Strengths!, Class 1-A defends itself against Ketsubutsu Academy's opening barrage in the Provisional Hero License Exam's First Exam. Chapter 104 confirms that only the first hundred examinees to tag six targets survive the Provisional Hero License Exam's opening round. Candidates must strike targets on their opponents while protecting their own from being hit three times.
Inasa Yoarashi stands atop a building and uses his Whirlwind Quirk to hurl an entire swarm of balls, torn into the sky by Yo Shindo's earthquake, back down onto the field. Examiner Yokumiru Mera logs him as the first to pass, having eliminated 120 examinees in a single move.
Yo Shindo's Tremoring Earth uses his Vibrate Quirk to pulverize the arena floor and strip everyone nearby of their footing, at the cost of the shock rebounding back into his own body. The tremor scatters Class 1-A and tears every nearby ball into the sky.
Camie of Shiketsu High School tags Izuku Midoriya with a ball while he is lost in thought analyzing Ketsubutsu Academy's strategy. She teases him for drifting off mid-battle, opening their confrontation.
