Only the first hundred examinees to tag six targets survive the Provisional Hero License Exam's opening round. Class 1-A mostly swats away the incoming balls. Shikkui Makabe stiffens the projectiles while Itejiro Toteki drives them into the dirt along flawless arcs. Kyoka Jiro cracks the ground open with Heartbeat Distortion, exposing which students each ball is hunting, and Mina Ashido throws up an Acid Veil over Minoru Mineta. Fumikage Tokoyami wraps himself in Dark Shadow through Black Abyss and swipes at Tatami Nakagame with a ball in hand, only for her Telescopic Quirk to carry her clear as she praises the class. With Yokumiru Mera reporting nobody through yet, Izuku Midoriya elects to study Quirks first, since every target is guarded and stray hits are hopeless.

Up in the stands, Ms. Joke remarks to Shota Aizawa that whoever seizes the initiative rewrites the fight. Down below, Yo Shindo promises to break the wall of defense and drops Tremoring Earth on the arena, his Vibrate Quirk pulverizing the floor and stealing everyone's footing, at the cost of the shock rebounding into him.

Elsewhere the tremor barely registers before every ball in the vicinity is torn into the sky. Inasa Yoarashi, thrilled to be in the thick of it, stands atop a building and hurls the whole swarm back down with his wind. Mera logs him as the first to pass and reels at the count: one hundred and twenty examinees gone in a heartbeat.

Steadying himself, Izuku concludes Ketsubutsu Academy has studied U.A.'s Quirks thoroughly and that only teamwork answers their coordination. The disadvantage thrills him anyway. Then a ball lands on him. The girl responsible, Camie, chides him for drifting off mid-battle, finds it strange that he can still grin from behind, and decides it looks cool. Izuku sharpens up for the fight.

Class 1-A repels the opening barrage from Ketsubutsu Academy's Class 2-2, but Yo Shindo's Tremoring Earth breaks the ground and splits them apart.

Inasa Yoarashi sweeps up every nearby ball with his wind and becomes the exam's first qualifier, eliminating one hundred and twenty examinees in the process.

Camie of Shiketsu High tags Izuku while he is distracted, opening their confrontation.

The nineteen-page chapter ran in issue 39 of 2016, published August 29, 2016, and belongs to volume 12 under the Provisional Hero License Exam arc. Its cover assembles most of Class 1-A alongside Yo Shindo and Shikkui Makabe.
