Chapter 11

All Might hands the round to Izuku Midoriya and Ochaco Uraraka, and the loss leaves Katsuki Bakugo reeling. As Izuku is carried off to Recovery Girl's Nurse's Office, the teacher pulls Katsuki aside for his critique: victory or defeat, the useful part is looking back honestly, taking the lesson, and carrying on.

Back in the monitor room, All Might names Tenya Ida the standout of the match and asks the class to explain why. Momo Yaoyorozu supplies it. Trading wide-area attacks inside a building was reckless of both Katsuki and Izuku, while Ochaco drifted through the middle stretch and finished with a wild gamble. Tenya, by contrast, read the situation as it shifted and built a counter for his opponent. Her answer is correct, and the next bout begins: Shoto Todoroki and Mezo Shoji as Heroes against Mashirao Ojiro and Toru Hagakure as Villains. Shoto sends Mezo outside, encases the building in ice, warms the floor so the pair cannot move, and strolls over to the core for an effortless win.

With the remaining bouts finished, All Might praises the class for their first full exercise and sends them off to change. In the Nurse's Office, Recovery Girl grumbles that this makes three trips for a critically injured Izuku. She reminds All Might that this is the boy he handed his Quirk to and that indulging him helps nobody. All Might asks her to keep One For All quiet, noting that while every teacher knows about his true form and his wound, the Quirk itself is known only to her, the principal Nezu, a handful of close friends, and Izuku. She asks whether those labels really carry the weight he gives them, natural-born hero, Symbol of Peace, any of it. Without such a symbol, he answers, a society of superhumans surrenders to evil. Her reply is blunt: then be a better mentor.

Izuku rejoins the class to some applause and immediately wonders where Katsuki went. Ignoring advice to leave it alone, he seeks him out and lays it bare: the Quirk was handed to him by someone else, and no deception was ever involved. Katsuki refuses the story, insists the loss was fair, and declares that the Number One spot is his from here on. All Might tries to talk to him about confidence and is told he will be surpassed too, so the teacher walks away, reflecting that teaching is harder than it looks.

Somewhere far from all of it, a man lowers a newspaper reporting All Might's new job and poses a question of his own: what becomes of the world once villains snuff the Symbol of Peace out?

Tenya is the only student from the opening round singled out for praise, credited for actually playing the role he was assigned.

Katsuki's pride breaks under the combination of losing to Izuku and watching Shoto win his own match without effort.

Izuku admits to Katsuki that his Quirk was given to him, and Katsuki dismisses it outright.

Momo and Shoto are both revealed to be recommended students, and Shoto's Half-Cold Half-Hot is laid out: ice on his right side, flame on his left.

Kurogiri, Nomu, and Tomura Shigaraki make their first appearances.

Kohei Horikoshi's eleventh chapter ran in issue 43 of 2014 on September 22, spans nineteen pages, and was collected in the second volume. It closes out the Battle Trial arc material between Chapter 10 and Chapter 12.

The events adapt into Episode 8 of the anime. Izuku Midoriya, Ochaco Uraraka, Tenya Ida, and Katsuki Bakugo share the cover, which also has a published sketch version.

Ground Beta, Recovery Girl's Nurse's Office, the Class 1-A room, and Kamino in Yokohama all feature, and Comet Home Run debuts as a super move.
