The impression was wrong, and Sir Nighteye says so, walking Izuku Midoriya through how the real expression is supposed to look. Only then does Izuku take in the merchandise crowding the room and understand that the man in front of him is an All Might fanatic.

Told to leave, Izuku explains where the face came from: the Vinegar Suicide Incident, where a drowning middle schooler had been turning the water around him to vinegar. All Might pulled him out and took eye injuries from the vinegar for his trouble. Nighteye knows the case perfectly well. It is just too minor to come up on the fan sites.

As the two of them dig into it, Mirio Togata releases Bubble Girl and mentions that Izuku is his underclassman. Nighteye turns to business and guesses correctly that an internship is the point of the visit. Izuku produces the contract. The terms, Nighteye warns, are brutal: several days each week, a minimum of a month, and absences piling up elsewhere. Izuku wants the position anyway. Nighteye picks up his stamp and leaves the paper blank.

He sees no advantage in it. A pair of sidekicks plus a single student on placement already keep the agency running smoothly. What he wants is proof, a demonstration of what Izuku can do and why society should care. He points to All Might, whose enormous strength paired with humor handed hope to people living in fear of crime, which is precisely why the public loves him.

So he sets a test. Three minutes to take the stamp off him, and if Izuku wants to work here as a hero, he can stamp his own contract and make the internship official. Mirio and Bubble Girl are dismissed. In the hallway she asks whether Mirio faced anything similar; he did not, because Nighteye put his name forward personally.

Nighteye promises not to hurt him and invites attacks from any angle at any moment, indifferent to what happens to the room. Full Cowl flares and Izuku vaults overhead for a strike that Nighteye anticipated and stops cold. A second attempt fares no better. One minute burns away.

Some distance might help, Nighteye offers, along with accepting that Foresight simply cannot be beaten. A touch against the target combined with locked eyes lets him watch everything that person will do across the coming hour.

While Izuku hunts for a way through, Nighteye delivers his assessment: expectations had been high, and the boy in front of him is unremarkable. With villains resurging across the world, he was right all along that Mirio should have received One For All.

The words land hard. Izuku's respect for All Might runs deep, yet the choice has never made sense to him either. Nighteye puts it plainly. A worthier candidate exists, and he grants Izuku no recognition whatsoever.

Everything All Might invested in him, and everything he has done to get this far, refuses to be worth nothing. Anger takes over. Izuku hurls himself around the room in the ricocheting style Gran Torino taught him, shouting that he will stamp that contract and drag acknowledgment out of Nighteye no matter what it costs.

Izuku formally requests an internship at the Nighteye Agency and is told to earn it by taking the stamp within three minutes.

Nighteye's Quirk is revealed as Foresight, which lets him watch an hour of a target's future actions after touch and eye contact, and he uses it to shrug off every attack.

Nighteye tells Izuku outright that he does not consider him a fitting successor to All Might.

The one hundred twenty-seventh chapter by Kohei Horikoshi appeared February 20, 2017 in issue 12, runs nineteen pages, and belongs to volume 14 and the Shie Hassaikai arc. Nighteye shares the cover with Izuku, Mirio and Bubble Girl. Episode 66 adapts it.

The chapter opens Hero Work-Studies: Round 1 and the bout between Izuku Midoriya and Sir Nighteye, set at the Nighteye Agency, with One For All, Foresight and Full Cowl on display. The Vinegar Riverbank Incident is referenced in dialogue.

Horikoshi's comment notes that he visited Shueisha for an anime meeting after a long absence and managed to show up late.
