Summary

Koichi and Kazuho Haneyama come across Knuckleduster's mask and brass knuckles sitting in Koichi's Penthouse. Kazuho cannot work out the timing, since the three of them had only just split up in town, so Koichi figures the old man doubled back and left them behind, possibly expecting them to be cleaned.

He is scrubbing the knuckles when Makoto Tsukauchi turns up looking for an interview with Knuckleduster. Told that Oguro is not around, she heads inside to drop off another batch of letters for Kazuho.

In a hospital room, Soga Kugisaki keeps watch over a bed. He notices Tamao Oguro's arm slipping out from under the covers and tucks it back. She stirs, gets a look at him, and remarks on how frightening he is before complaining that her head aches and asking for her father. Knuckleduster walks in with groceries, thanks Soga on his way out, and offers his daughter yogurt. When she repeats that her head hurts, he sets the bag aside and tells her to rest. She asks after her mother, and he tells her she just missed her, his mind going to the image of his wife being wheeled down a hospital corridor.

Kazuho returns to the penthouse hauling a big bulletin board meant for fan mail. Koichi decides it can hold more than that, hanging up Knuckleduster's belongings alongside the trash and recycling schedule. In narration he reflects on how heavily the man's presence still sits in the apartment even with him gone.
