Chapter 300

Two days on from the war, order is coming apart. Freed villains pile onto the wreckage, and the Nomu finish off whatever nerve the public had left. The dread traces back to the creature that hit U.A.: the thought of things almost but not quite human had been chewing at people ever since, and Hawks had already told Endeavor the rumors were circulating with nobody certain what was true. The pressure finally bursts.

Prison riots put gangs like the Cider House crew, locked in Shian by Katsuki Bakugo and Shoto Todoroki, back on the streets to grab what they can. Civilians try to fight them off and the body count climbs, because none of them are trained, precisely the outcome Re-Destro forecast. Wash hears of one such scene and races over too late. A bystander swings a frying pan at him for the delay, complaining they were caught in it while sitting at home. He takes the treatment, irritated, then bubbles the wounded clean so they can be moved to a hospital.

Yoroi Musha, in the work since his youth, announces he is stepping down and blames the constant destruction. The real reason is thinner: the love and respect the job once carried had drained away. Fans turn on him for cowardice, and his exit opens a door others walk through, heroes who had taken a peaceful society as settled. What "hero" means is now under examination, sorting those who will do the work from those who will not, and the country funnels its blame onto one man. Somewhere else, a freed Stain collects his weapons, grinning at a world finally waking the way he wanted.

Endeavor wakes to a doctor's report that everyone pulled through, the boy and the patient himself alike, plus some quiet encouragement on the way out the door. Alive, he reads survival as Dabi's calculation; his son knew exactly what kind of man he is. He admits he locked up again with his child in danger. Best Jeanist's presence punctured a piece of Dabi's broadcast, but the rest holds: he is paying for a selfish past and for throwing Toya away, and whatever breathes in this bed, the name Endeavor is dead. Crying, he confesses that killer or not, raising a hand against his own child sits beyond him.

Shoto opens the door, sees the tears, and shuts it. Enji orders him in and he comes, with Fuyumi and Natsuo, and is asked whether they are all right. Natsuo asks about the crying, and Enji spills into apology, calling regret and guilt too late to count for anything. Before he can get to his heart, Rei walks in asking after it herself, and tells him she and the children have carried that weight far longer than he has. Startled, he asks why she is here. She has come to talk about the family, and about Dabi.

Escaped convicts and visible Nomu drive public fear to a peak. The Cider House gang, revealed as among the escapees, hits a bar where armed civilians make the damage worse; Wash arrives late, is blamed, and helps clean up regardless. Hero society begins to collapse: the No. 9 hero Yoroi Musha retires to accusations of cowardice, more pros follow, an All Might statue is defaced with "I AM NOT HERE," and more civilians rely on support items instead of calling heroes, raising the casualty count. Stain is confirmed out of Tartarus, his face shown fully unmasked for the first time, rearmed and ready to resume his work. Endeavor breaks down over Dabi's words and declares that "Endeavor is dead" just before his family, Rei included, arrives to talk about Toya.

Seventeen pages, published February 8, 2021, in issue 10 and collected in Volume 31 as part of the Paranormal Liberation War arc. The anime splits it across Episode 127, from page 8, and Episode 129. The title refers back to Chapter 249, and the sketch of Wash nods to the Robot Master boss introductions from the Mega Man games.
