Chapter 37: Midoriya and Endeavor

Katsuki takes the win over Ochaco and advances. Heading up the corridor afterward, he runs into Izuku and accuses him of feeding her tactics. Izuku denies it, telling him the meteor shower plan was hers alone and that she was the one who made the match difficult, which does nothing to cool Katsuki's temper.

Izuku visits Ochaco in a waiting room, her injuries already treated. She tells him she is fine, and that losing again is not something she can afford. Elsewhere, Eijiro and Tetsutetsu settle their deadlock with an arm wrestling match, and Eijiro comes out on top to claim the next round slot.

With the second round about to open, Ochaco apologizes for eating into Izuku's time and promises to cheer for him. Once he is gone, her father calls. She tries to say she gave everything for their sake, and he answers that there is no hurry and that he has no doubt she will grow into a great Hero, which breaks her into tears.

On his way to his match, Izuku crosses paths with Endeavor, who remarks that the boy's Quirk could stand beside All Might's. Izuku wants nothing to do with him and moves to leave, and Endeavor tells him not to embarrass Shoto with a poor showing. Before walking off, Izuku says plainly that he is not All Might and that Shoto is not Endeavor.

Ochaco is brought to the clinic after her defeat. Tetsutetsu and Eijiro break their tie through arm wrestling, and Eijiro wins the right to continue.

Izuku meets Endeavor for the first time and pushes back on the comparison the Hero draws between them and their respective successors. The opening bout of the second round begins with Izuku and Shoto facing each other in the ring.

The chapter closes with both students braced to attack as the match starts, leaving the clash itself for the following installment.

It runs 19 pages in Volume 5 and is adapted in Episode 22 of the anime. In an author's comment, Kohei Horikoshi notes that his first serialization ended after 37 chapters, while this series reached color pages at the same number.
