Chapter 384

Watching Gigantomachia trade blows with All For One, Fumikage Tokoyami assumes Hitoshi Shinso has turned the giant to their side. Keigo Takami confirms the gamble, with Yu Takeyama assigned to shield the boy, and adds the catch: one successful hit from All For One snaps the Brainwashing. The villain works out that Hitoshi's Quirk is how the Aoyamas were used to mislead him, remarks that the trick is his own trademark, and blasts Gigantomachia.

The control does break, yet Gigantomachia keeps swinging. The face has changed, he says, but the scent is unmistakably his master's, and he wants to know why he was left behind. Hawks cannot make sense of it, since Hitoshi had no window to reapply the Quirk. Gigantomachia remembers being told to wait for the day a successor came searching, and roars that even after his master returned wearing Tomura Shigaraki's body, after all that faith and waiting, he was still abandoned and left to watch the man run.

Shielded from the blast by Eijiro Kirishima, Hitoshi observes that only Izuku Midoriya and Gigantomachia have ever thrown off his Brainwashing, and that even while controlled the beast never stopped muttering about betrayal. He says he is only riding along as insurance beside that rage, and notes that although people call his Quirk villainous, it has never held any power over a person's heart. Hawks mocks that nobody is buying the villain's grand story as the heroes and Gigantomachia unload everything until All For One disappears.

High above, a news helicopter presses as close to the battlefield as it dares. The reporter cannot explain why she is flying into this, only that she has to. She had seen La Brava's stream on Gentle's channel showing the fight between Deku and Tomura, recognized the boy as the rumored figure wrapped in rags, and realized she had once interviewed him back before the Sports Festival at U.A., with no inkling of how far he would travel.

A second helicopter closes in behind. Its reporter, the woman who challenged Enji Todoroki at the press conference after the Paranormal Liberation War, offers an apology and calls this a private matter she needs resolved. She says Deku is not fighting alone: colleagues walked away, but others stayed and kept being heroes. The world has been told Japan has fallen, and she is here to report the people who have not quit, whether this ends in victory or defeat. Gentle's viewer count climbs as audiences everywhere realize the fight is still going.

All For One breaks Hitoshi's Brainwashing on Gigantomachia, but the beast keeps fighting his master anyway, driven by his own sense of betrayal at having been abandoned during the war.

News reporters take helicopters over the battlefield, moved by the stream of Deku and Tomura in combat to tell the world that Japan's heroes have not stopped fighting.

The chapter runs seventeen pages and was published on April 3, 2023, in issue 18 of 2023. It belongs to Volume 38 and the Final War arc, between Chapter 383 and Chapter 385. Gigantomachia, Red Riot, Hitoshi Shinso, Tsukuyomi, Hawks, and Mt. Lady share the cover, and Episode 156 of the anime adapts it.

Characters created for the films appear in cameo as viewers of the broadcast around the world: Melissa Shield, Katsuma and Mahoro Shimano, and Rody Soul with his siblings. This marks the first appearance of Melissa and the Souls in the main series, having previously been confined to spin-off chapters, and the first appearance of the Shimanos in any manga chapter. Horikoshi's author comment describes discovering the singer Aurora during her visit to Japan and listening to her constantly since.
