Chapter 83 (Vigilantes)

Endeavor watches The Crawler close the distance and reads the situation quickly. Pop☆Step is hurt, and while Koichi Haimawari has her in his arms he cannot bounce away. Writing the boy off as a punk in an All Might hoodie, the flame hero promises he will not escape.

Koichi feels the heat rising as he nears the country's second-ranked professional, but stopping is not available to him. A swarm of exploding bees is behind him, a self-styled hero wants him dead, and Soga Kugisaki is the only person who can help Kazuho Haneyama. Every second he loses is one she does not have.

Behind him, Number 6 keeps pace under his O'Clock II persona. He missed his earlier chance to kill the young vigilante, but Endeavor has not noticed him, so he expects the kill the moment Koichi peels off into an alley to dodge the flames. Instead Koichi neither slows nor turns aside. He aims himself directly at Endeavor, and the villain wonders whether the boy has lost his mind.

Seeing the charge, Endeavor throws fireballs, and Koichi threads between them as best he can. Realizing the fight is not shaping the way he wanted, Number 6 weighs announcing himself and fighting alongside the hero, since otherwise he takes no credit for bringing Koichi down.

Koichi keeps sliding through the gaps until a blast flips his hood back. The antennae on it call All Might to Endeavor's mind, and his temper goes with it. He unleashes Hell Minefield, and the street starts detonating underfoot, forcing both the vigilante and the villain into the air to clear it. Number 6 believes he has reached safety, and then Endeavor sets off an enormous secondary explosion that wipes out every bee.

The attack has two stages, and Number 6 works that out too late. Burning in midair, cursing the single mistake unravelling his whole design, he sees Koichi floating above the fire on his Quirk. Then the energy at the boy's feet shifts again as he holds his breath, and he rockets into the sky, leaving everyone below staring. Engulfed by flames, Number 6 watches his target slip away.

High up, the force under Koichi's feet runs dry. As the two of them begin to fall, Kazuho manages his name. He gathers her in and tells her it will be all right.

Endeavor confronts The Crawler while he flees Number 6, and attempts to burn him down with Hell Minefield.

Both the villain and the vigilante evade the move's opening phase, and the detonation that follows catches each of them unprepared. Koichi survives by boosting his repulsive force into a rocket-like launch, escaping the fire entirely. Number 6 does not, and is swallowed by the flames.

The eighty-third chapter of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, written by Hideyuki Furuhashi and drawn by Betten Court, titled Earthbound Perp. Released 8 August 2020, it runs nineteen pages and appears in volume eleven. It sits in the Final Performance arc between chapters 82 and 84.
