Omakes

Omake, written 御負け or おまけ and meaning roughly "extras", are the brief supplementary strips that have accompanied My Hero Academia in Weekly Shonen Jump. They sit outside the continuity of the serialized chapters and tend to be built around seasonal occasions or simple character comedy.

The earliest, Master and Pupil, ran in issue 3-4 of 2016 and puts Izuku and All Might on a Christmas shopping trip; All Might assumes the boy wants merchandise of him and is floored when the answer is a PS Vita. Issues 21-22 of 2017 carried Messages on Carp Streamers for Children's Day, and a companion strip simply called Children's Day appeared in a special J-Heroes booklet raffled to a small number of buyers of that same issue, in which a young Izuku charges outside in a paper hat shaped like All Might's hair only to collide with Katsuki wearing the same thing.

Later entries lean on gags. An untitled snowball fight strip in issue 4-5 of 2019 has Izuku swearing he will not lose and Katsuki pointing out that a snowball can kill a person. Issues 36-37 of 2019 brought Todoroki-kun's Scriptures of Fire and Ice!. Issue 6-7 of 2020 delivered an untitled mochi strip where Ochaco offers to help Katsuki at the usu and detonates it, scattering Shoto, Izuku, and Momo. In SOMEONE ELSE, from issues 36-37 of 2020, Izuku keeps his composure at the beach when an orca approaches because he assumes it is Gang Orca, and it turns out to be an orca.

The 2021 strips include an untitled One Piece crossover in issue 5-6, produced for that series' 1000 Story Memorial, in which Izuku's Class 1-A Pirates set out to help people and get captured by Impel Down's warden Hannyabal. Fireworks followed in issues 36-37 of 2021, and BIRDMEN appeared in issue 5-6 of 2022.

The omake collection spans December 2015 through January 2022, with entries clustered around Christmas and New Year issues, Children's Day, and summer.

Two of the strips exist outside normal serialization: the Children's Day piece was distributed only through a raffled booklet, and the untitled 2021 strip was produced as part of the One Piece 1000 Story Memorial.

Recurring targets include Izuku's admiration of All Might, Katsuki's temperament, and Shoto's dual Quirk.

Several of the strips were published without titles and are referred to by their subject matter, such as "Snowball Fight", "Exploding Mochi", and "One Piece".

The extras are categorized as media and extra chapters rather than numbered chapters, and none of them advance the plot of the main manga.
