Personality
A playful child at heart, he loves nothing more than knocking a football around with his companions, though the mere sight of Gaara fills him with dread. He also carries a cruel streak, and the anime shows him pelting Shira with stones for lacking ninja skill.
History
Fresh into the Academy and still untrained in the ninja arts, he spent his days deep in play alongside Tsuchino, Kashike, and Tomari across the Sand village. When his ball once lodged on a rooftop he had no way to retrieve it, unable yet to scale walls, and Gaara fetched it down for him, only for the frightened boy to bolt. Gaara's attempt to stop him accidentally endangered Abiru and his friends, and it was Gaara's uncle Yashamaru who stepped in and spared the boy's life. On another occasion he joined in tormenting Shira, whose weak ninjutsu and genjutsu had kept him out of the Academy.
