Awaji Unabara is the son of the Land of Water's daimyō, Sanzui Unabara. A courteous young man of the New Era, his brief life ends in the airship disaster that helps ignite conflict during the Great Sea Battle of Kirigakure.
Standing on the shorter side, Awaji keeps his dark hair neatly combed and looks out through deep blue eyes. His outfit centres on a black jacket finished with gold shoulder epaulettes and gold edging, worn over a white shirt whose cuffs peek out past the jacket's sleeves.
Awaji comes across as gentle and well-mannered. When his father Sanzui presented Tekkan, he offered polite applause, and afterward he warmly complimented the speech his father had delivered.
Once Sanzui finished a speech introducing the Shinonome 1 power station, Awaji climbed aboard the first airship meant to ferry the crowd out to see it. The craft went down and burst apart moments after leaving the ground, and Awaji died along with everyone else on board. In the aftermath of the fighting the disaster set off, his grieving father leaned on Kirigakure to deal severely with the Funato clan.
