Baji

Baji looked out for himself and no one else. He reasoned that so long as a hostage was in hand his own escape was assured, and he shrugged off the deaths of his followers, figuring he could always assemble another crew. Rather than face arrest, he was prepared to take his own life. His towering self-assurance kept him convinced that events were unfolding to plan even as they fell apart, and the constant smirk and swagger led him to dismiss the young ninja of Teams 7 and 10 as no threat.

Sharp-minded and a gifted schemer, Baji commanded enough respect that his men obeyed him without a word of protest. His signature ninjutsu, the Mouth Seal Technique, silenced his enemies, choking off their ability to speak and coordinate plans among themselves, and he could lift the effect whenever he chose.

Baji abducted a village headman's granddaughter and kept her as leverage. Once Teams 7 and 10 broke into his stronghold, he proposed swapping the girl for Shikamaru Nara in place of Tōfū. Backed by Chōji Akimichi and Ino Yamanaka, Shikamaru turned the tables on him. Cornered with no way out, Baji tried to blow himself up with explosive tags strapped across his body, only for Shikamaru's Shadow Imitation Technique to freeze him before he could.
