Eagle-Masked Anbu Member

He wears the regulation garb of a Konohagakure Anbu and carries a sword slung across his back. Tall, spiked brown hair rises above the mask.

The anime shows him slipping bodily through solid surfaces, and he commands water well enough to spin off clones of himself. The blade on his back points to training in swordsmanship.

Much of what is known about this operative comes from the anime, where he turns up at pivotal moments across two eras. Early on he backed Kakashi Hatake and a boar-masked partner in relieving a Leaf lookout besieged by infiltrators posing as Iwagakure ninja, an incident he later reported to the Fourth Hokage while noting how hard Rin's death had hit Kakashi. When the Nine-Tails tore through the village, he was among the Anbu who threw themselves at the beast alongside the Third Hokage, only to be swatted aside. He also stood watch over a conference between Konoha's leaders and the Fire Daimyō, moving instantly to pin an intruder who barged in.

Through the Chūnin Exams he retrieved Anko Mitarashi from the Forest of Death once her cursed seal flared and word of Orochimaru spread, carrying her back to the central tower and warning that the exams ought to halt. His later assignments ran from spying on Danzō Shimura under Tsunade's orders to guarding the Three-Tails, where Deidara overwhelmed him. His most sustained appearance came during Pain's siege of Konoha, when he and several fellow Anbu shielded Tsunade as she healed the wounded through Katsuyu. He anchored his chakra to his feet to resist the Deva Path, weathered a full Shinra Tensei, dug himself and Tsunade out of the rubble, and stayed at her side, at one point entrusting Gamakichi with carrying her clear of the fighting.
