Eiki Fūma

Fair-skinned and of average height, Eiki has amber eyes and muted grey hair shaved close at the sides and swept to ear length on top. He wears a black long-sleeved shirt under a grey vest stamped with three downward-pointing yellow triangles arranged into one larger triangle, paired with dark blue trousers and black sandals.

Eiki is an earnest, driven boy who speaks with formal polish and carries obvious pride in his renowned lineage, though that self-regard can tip into overconfidence and rash choices. His feelings for Kae Yukiwari leave him tongue-tied around her and prickly toward any boy who edges closer to her than he does. Beneath the bravado sits a real conscience, shown when he felt genuine remorse for wrecking the stage his classmates had built while trying to expose Kawaki. He is also unmistakably brave, taking it on himself to look into a terrorist threat and staying behind to shrink the blast when it counted.

Blessed with the Fūma clan's knack for ninjutsu, Eiki handles shuriken with precision and was among the first in his class to master the Tree Climbing exercise. His crush on Kae took root when she returned a handkerchief he had dropped, and much of his time at the Academy played out as a running feud with Kawaki, the class's oldest and, to Eiki, most suspicious student. An early attempt to force a spar ended with Kawaki dodging everything, and a later scheme to attack him with a stolen summoning scroll backfired when the uncontracted creature knocked Eiki out cold. His distrust simmered through a tea party gone chaotic and a string of classroom rivalries, including a competitive streak against Osuka.

Cast as Jiraiya in the class's Sannin play, he went so far as to read an Icha Icha book for research, only for Sōsha to splash the embarrassing detail across the school paper. An anonymous note claiming Kawaki was a genuine shinobi sent Eiki chasing proof, and his botched grab for Kawaki's forehead protector during rehearsal helped level the set, which he then pitched in to rebuild. When the festival drew a terrorist threat, he and Ehō uncovered a hidden circuit of explosive tags, and Eiki stayed behind to defuse what he could while Kawaki carried off the largest charge. He was later quietly folded into the effort to trace Kae's would-be assassin, and during a survival exercise on a remote island he learned their teacher Hana was the culprit. Joining his classmates to rescue Kae, he refused to give up even after Kawaki revealed his true nature, and once the ordeal ended he bashfully promised the departing princess that he would grow into a great shinobi and visit her one day in the Land of Bamboo.
