Funato Soldier Leader

A traditional Funato tattoo marked his head, as it did many of his clansmen. He stood at an unremarkable height with olive skin, his dark hair cropped short beneath a forked moustache and thin, uneven sideburns. His dress was the clan's standard kit of vest and armlets.

Ambition drove him. He longed to climb into a command role within the Tenma Unit and dangled a gold nugget before his men to reward whoever served him best. He drew a line at killing hostages who still had value, though he grew willing once they had outlived their use. Keenly aware of how harshly Tenma Funato judged failure, he dreaded carrying bad news back and relished the thought of reporting a success.

In the Great Sea Battle of Kirigakure, he oversaw soldiers plundering newly uncovered gold on Doto Island, forcing captives to mine it. When one hostage let slip that Konoha citizens and escaped shinobi were among the prisoners, he braced for a rescue attempt and offered a gold nugget to whichever soldier caught the intruders. His ambush on Sarada and Mitsuki, who had already freed the captives, collapsed when Sarada snared him in genjutsu and knocked him out. Once he came to, he signaled the rest of his force to fall on the hostages, now fleeing aboard a Funato ship, but for all his men's efforts to board it, the prisoners slipped away.
