Personality

Guilt reshaped Gantetsu during his time among the Shinobazu. Though he told himself that sheltering orphaned children justified the group's raids, he could not ignore the cruelty of leaving them parentless, and he resolved to put an end to the drop-out ninja for good. He accepts that his past crimes leave a stain no amount of good can ever wash away.

History

He hid the rescued children in the Forest of Bewilderment, made off with the loot his gang had gathered, and let the others assume he had been taken prisoner so they would come after the treasure and expose themselves. Great physical power lets him bend steel bars barehanded, and a keen sense of direction guides him through the maze-like forest; he even shrugs off certain snake venoms, having grown used to their bite. Held captive and bound for a capital city, Gantetsu traveled downriver aboard a prison ship that his former partners Shura and Monju assaulted, less to free him than to wring the hidden money from him. Todoroki distrusted him and tried more than once to kill him, yet Gantetsu kept guiding the escort through the forest, helped defeat the Shinobazu, and even saved Todoroki's life. In gratitude, Todoroki agreed to file a false report of his death so he could remain with the orphans.
