Giant Snake-Tailed Chameleon

A lone Rinnegan sits in the creature's left socket. Four legs each spread into four large claws, and its scaled body is bound with bandages across the middle of the back. Two ragged, hole-riddled wings sprout above them. From the rear of its skull rise a pair of oddly shaped horns: the right one is snapped and wrapped, while the left is pierced through by four black receivers. Where an ordinary tail would go, it instead carries a full-sized snake.

Mirroring a true chameleon, the beast melts into its surroundings so thoroughly that onlookers lose sight of it entirely, a cover the Animal Path exploits by climbing into its mouth to strike from concealment. The camouflage is not flawless: barrier techniques can pin down its position, so when Jiraiya reached for a detection barrier, Pain simply pulled the chameleon away and countered with a different summon. It also scales sheer and inclined walls with reptilian ease and wrecks houses and buildings with its sheer bulk. The snake serving as its tail works as a grasping limb, its tongue snaring targets for Pain to seize, as it does during the Fourth Shinobi World War. Its damaged wings, like those of Pain's other beasts, leave its flight in doubt, and its eyes feed into the sight Nagato shares among his summons.

The chameleon first appears in Pain's duel with Jiraiya at Amegakure, swallowing the Animal Path and vanishing to hide him. When Jiraiya's barrier fails to locate it, he summons Shima and Fukasaku and enters Sage Mode. Shima quickly works out where the creature is, binds it with her Fighting Tongue Bind, and coats her tongue in a corrosive fluid that strips away the camouflage, after which Fukasaku cleaves the beast in half with the Fighting Tongue Slash. In the anime it returns during the invasion of Konoha under the second Animal Path, rampaging alongside the other summons until Pain recalls them all to pour his strength into the Deva Path for a village-wide Shinra Tensei. It surfaces once more in the Fourth Shinobi World War, called up by the reincarnated Nagato: concealed inside its invisible mouth, he looses a huge Shinra Tensei that tears apart a stretch of forest during his battle with Naruto and Killer B. After draining B's chakra to restore his youth, Nagato has the snake-tail pin Naruto so he can extract his soul, but Itachi blinds both the beast and the King of Hell with thrown kunai and rescues the pair.
