History

Gosunkugi works as a thief slipping across the borders of the Stone Country. In one early crime he butchered a family of three, then pinned the guilt on a blacksmith named Tokichi whom he had briefly fought while leaving. Tokichi, later known as Sazanami, fled the enraged villagers and remade himself into a bounty hunter bent solely on running Gosunkugi down, and over the years the thief's price climbed to three million ryō. His techniques revolve around nails: he can breathe out a soaring stream of hundreds of tiny ones, or sink them into the earth to either pin a target down or send them bursting upward at a foe, and he also carries a sword. After he made off with a treasure belonging to the daimyo of the Land of Tea, Tsunade dispatched a squad to bring him in: Naruto Uzumaki, working with Kiba Inuzuka and his dog Akamaru, plus Hinata Hyuga. Sazanami caught up during the chase but was wounded by a nail jutsu and left behind when Gosunkugi mistook Naruto's shadow clones for backup. The hunt resumed as the thief and his men went after a ceremonial bell; once the henchmen were downed, Gosunkugi grabbed the bell, only to fall to Naruto and Sazanami, after which the bounty hunter Gatsu took him captive. Soon after, Gatsu, joined by the village elder, informed the villagers that Gosunkugi had admitted to the killings.
