Haku's Mother

Appearance

Her long black hair is gathered loosely and bound at the ends with bandages, a look later echoed by Neji Hyūga, while short bangs sweep to the right across her brow and collarbone-length strands frame a fair, heart-shaped face. She dresses plainly in a light-brown kimono edged in black over worn black ankle-boots, and overall she looks much like Haku himself.

Personality

Above all she treasures a peaceful, joyful home with the people she loves. Beneath that devotion runs a steady and well-founded dread of exposure, so sharp that, in the anime, it makes her strike her boy when his power surfaces, though she is instantly sorry and apologizes.

History

As a Yuki, she carried the Ice Release bloodline, a fusion of water and wind chakra, yet her terror of discovery meant she never once called on it. Kirigakure despised such lineages for the devastation they wrought in war, so she hid her roots and married an ordinary farmer, and together they raised their beloved son. The fragile peace breaks when Haku proudly displays the ice ability he inherited from her. Frightened for the life she had built, she reacts in anger and slaps him, then weeps, apologizes, and begs him never to show it again. The warning comes too late. Her husband has already glimpsed the truth from the shadows, and he soon returns with a mob to kill her in the cottage they once shared.
